Preparing for a long drive

Hello all,

So I am planning a drive from NJ to NC and back. I already drive my car a LOT and this trip will just add to my normal commute. I have a lot of new stone chips on the front and the windshield...part of having it as a daily driver, I guess.

On recent trips, I usually just...went...because my car wasn't a TL ! Since I have this awesome machine, I really want to be careful.

I've searched and read the other threads - the consensus is the same, check fluids and be safe.

I had the B1 service performed a week ago and they checked the brakes, fluids, etc etc, so I don't have to worry about that.

However, I have two specific questions....

1. Should I increase the tire pressure from the recommended? If so, to how much?

2. Does anyone have any suggestions for the whole rock chip issue? Some sort of tape?

Also, if anyone has anything other than these two questions to add or to suggest, please do holla.

TIA.

Where in NC are you headed to? I'm in Cary which is right outside of Raleigh.

I haven't taken my car anywhere far but to Virginia once which was about 4 hours away. I put an extra pound of air in each tire. I've never taped my car, but I've considered it. The only type of tape I've seen on cars is the blue painters tape.

3m Clearbra for the front...but it's expensive.

Increase your distance behind the car or truck in front of you.

Go with 2-5 pounds of extra air to firm up the sidewalls if you are carrying a lot of weight in the car.

I travel from NC (Wilmington area) to NJ (Toms River area) and back every few weeks. I have lots of rock chips thanks to 95 and trucks. I should have put a clear bra on it-next car. I keep the tire pressure at the proper pressure. If you are traveling 95 thru VA-do not speed-they will get you. Got my speeding ticket at mile marker 110. I found out later it was in the targeted area. I usually fill up my car with gas before the trip and stop at the Wa Wa in Fredricksburg (exit 130a-b) to fill up again. Easy off and on. They have stations for both north and south bound drivers. I also have e-zpass for tolls in NJ, Delaware and Maryland.

I'm headed to Raleigh...I've done the drive many, mannnny times.

Thanks for the input. No 3M on this one...because 1. its expensive and 2. I bought it used with a few rockchips on it already. Although this blue painters tape thing has me thinking!

Hmmm I drive on the highway frequently and have no rock chips. Do you tailgate?

^ I drive on the highway 50 miles a day and never tailgate and my bumper looks like ass. Acura uses some cheap paint IMHO.

OP- when I go on long trips, I throw my bra on. Not sure if this is a viable alternative for you.

I do a lot of highway driving and do not tailgate. Most of the rock chips my car are compliments of trucks on 95. (the main highway to get to FL from the north)I have made 3 cross country road trips and have to say if you want rock chips travel 95.
