Yeah. I'm terrified to drop my car off with the dealer. I only have one choice up here. Next dealer is over 2000 miles away. I've been putting it off, I should just bite the bullet and get it done.

Get it done. A recall is a recall. They have to do it. It's a safety issue. You don't need an engine fire.

this is a serious issue- get your cars in right away!!!
a bad fitting may leak fluid onto hot exhaust and cause fire!!!

Its no charge to you- takes about 1.5 hours plus time for the car to cool off a bit
Dont expect to show up and wait for it- leave it the night before if possible, so its cold for them to work on
Some years also have a wiper motor recall

If in doubt call acura care 1-800-382-2238 x5
register as the owner and ask for recall check

thats where they send notices from- so they need your address for any future issues

I had mine done a while ago and the process went just fine. They did a good job and I don't have to worry about a fire from a leaking hose. Kind of a no-brainer if you ask me.

Here's my experience...
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=recall

They did mine in under an hour. Get it done asap... Just make sure they replace the o-ring since it should not be reused.

U.S. NHTSA recall press release on 273,000 Acura TL vehicles, 2004 to 2008 models, for power steering hose problem (expansion of an earlier recall):

Make / Models : Model/Build Years:
ACURA / TL 2004-2007
ACURA / TL 2008

Manufacturer : HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
Mfr's. Report Date : FEB 26, 2008
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 08V091000 N/A
NHTSA Action Number: N/A
Component: STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 273000

Summary:
HONDA IS RECALLING 273,000 MY 2004-2008 ACURA TL VEHICLES. PROLONGED HIGH UNDER-HOOD TEMPERATURES MAY CAUSE THE POWER STEERING HOSE TO DETERIORATE PREMATURELY CAUSING THE HOSE TO CRACK AND LEAK POWER STEERING FLUID.

Consequence:
POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING ONTO A HOT CATALYTIC CONVERTER WILL GENERATE SMOKE AND POSSIBLY LEAD TO AN UNDER-HOOD FIRE.

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW HEAT RESISTANT POWER STEERING HOSE FREE OF CHARGE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. OWNERS MAY CONTACT ACURA AT 800-382-2238. THIS IS AN EXPANSION OF A PREVIOUS RECALL (PLEASE SEE 07V551).

Just take it in. It's been a well known issue for a while. They actually asked me if I had mine done yet when I took it in for service one day.

And Mug, why are you terrified to bring your car in?

the dealer is supposed to run your VIN every time the car is in the shop to check for recalls--but they dont
Be registered with acura to get notices in the mail

I had the recall done last June. No problem at all, the dealer had a loaner waiting for me when I dropped the car off. The recall was done in less then 4 hours and I've had no problems since. By this time the techs should be able to do this recall in their sleep.

I had the power steering and wiper motor recall done at the same time. I had just bought my car and took it in for a tranny flush and didn't even know about the recall until they told me about it. So I scheduled a time for the recall. I dropped the car off there in the mornign and was supposed to pick it up after work, but the parts were late arriving or something, so my car wasn't ready so they gave me a loaner (a CSX) and my car was ready the next day.

Had my whole rack changed because it was shot. It was done at about 30k miles. It was covered under warranty. It's been the only major breakdown on my car so far at 42k. I wanted the hoses etc. done too and dealer the dealer did the customary run around acting like they didn't know about it, let me ask this guy, that guy etc. I made sure they got it all done in one shot. Car came out of the shop like brand new. I didn't realized how screwed up the rack had gotten over time! Now my car is gettin closer to the 50k mark and I am hoping my rack holds up.

When purchasing mine I asked the dealer about this they never got back to me I assumed they had corrected this on all TL's that still weren't sold..

I saw this video 3 days after buying mine.. now after reading this I'm getting scared again..

The topic came up on the local forum I moderate on.. not sure if I can post the link.. If I shouldn't please let me know to erase it..

It's not something you should be scared of, it's a recall, go to the dealer they will run the VIN and if it's been done there's nothing to worry about, if not they will replace the part free of charge. I don't see the big deal.

I know.. and I even have the Acura number saved on the cell..

I'll give a call and have them run the VIN.. as I said I asked the sales person a week after purchasing and she had no clue.. I emailed her the recall info and she never got back to me.. but thats my fault for not following up on the issue..

Thanks..

why would you expect SALES to know anything about a car?
Service has to run the VIN- they cant remember every cars details

YOU are smart to register with acura for that info to be sent to you
1-800-382-2238x5- tell them new owner and need recall check also
plus register here- different system, and you are looking at your own car info
register on both with VIN- store radio-nav codes online safely there too

one hose had a potential failure at the fitting- so 3 years worth of cars used that same hose and all needed to be replaced.
Its normal for the service/parts dept to order the hose in advance if out of stock. Some dealers keep a few on hand
ASK when you make the appointment- speak with parts dept, not the service writer who is simply taking appointments

He's in puerto rico so I'm guessing he can't register with acura.

I'm Canadian and I tried registering and it didn't recognize my VIN.

Well I just finished registering.. let me correct that I had already registered BUT had not entered the VIN cause when I registered I was too lazy to walk out and read it off the car since the registration still was a temporary release..
