Power Liftgate '05 TL

I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to install a power lift gate in my 2005 TL. It is a fully loaded model with Nav, etc. I would love to have a trunk that opens and closes on its own with a touch of a button. Any thoughts?

I'm sure it can be done, just a matter of finding what will fit.

I could see how it might be possible on some sedans equip with trunk mechanisms mimicking the hydraulic hood supports, since that's what Audi/VW uses (and a quick Google search shows it's possible), but I don't know how such a device could be done on our cars.

Then again, nothing is impossible...

AH, the trunk is very light weight anyway (unless you have a wing spoiler). I don't know if it's worth the investment....

Remove the trunk wieght and it will open on its own if you dont have the wing spoiler installed. Closing is easy enough.

The real question is whats the budget??

a Google search for power deck lid or trunk lid is what you need:

Maybe find a spring with more compression??? Seen where a person used tanning bed springs in their trunk. 450N springs were used on a Mitzubishi Lancer.

It's all fun and games until your trunk uppercuts you from whatever ridiculous mechanism you replace the stock equipment with.

Anyone here have friends/family who opened the trunk partially and got hit by it as it came back down due to the trunk's weight?

It can be done with the right design and linear actuator.

Doable? probably. Worth it on a 7 year old car? Likely not. There are better mods for the money.

What are you talking about? Its a remote deploy-able air brake now. Kinda like the chutes some drag racers run.
