Pothole

I ran into the biggest pothole, right outside the Lincoln tunnel last night, I almost felt the dashboard falling on my legs, thats how big this thing was, you would think that with a million cars passing on this 3 lane highway right out side NYC and they would spend a few dollars fixing this thing fuc*^rs...my tire went flat right after I hit it within 50 feet or so.

Anyway the question is, should I take the car down to the dealership to get it checked out? Could there be more damage? The rim is not bent apparently.

i wouldnt take any chances. if you hit it that hard, your alignment may be out of whack.

Damn! Yeah, get it checked out! The only thing about getting a car checked out by the dealer though, is it is never good to go in there with the "is anything wrong with my car" approach unless you are still under warranty! You start finding out all types of things are wrong...possibly...

IF you are looking to get off cheap...

The less you say, the better. Just go to have "a routine wheel alignment". Say nothing of having fears that something is wrong. If anything is wrong, the alignment will most likely detect it. Well, your rim might be cracked as an example, and the alignment would Not detect this...but, if your goal is to reduce the "wallet rape"...

Inaccurate makes a valid point, try to limit what you say, but say you got a blow out and ask if they notice anything wrong with the rim. My guess is the rim is bent, it's pretty difficult to tell if a rim is bent or not.

I'm on my 2nd bent rim thanks to NYC potholes.
If that's what you need, try getting a refurbished one from www.fixrim.com

This is why I didn't get the A-Spec suspension. The last thing I want to do is lower the car given the condition of the roads around here.

I ran into a pothole about 4 inches deep in Chicago. It cracked my rim about 6 inches, and my tire had ripes in the wires; there was an air bubble on the wall.
I did not feel anything wrong with my alignment, and I checked all the metal for paintcracks, and there weren't so there probably was nothing bent / wrong with it.

If I were you, I'd call the city up, and claim a pothole incident. It will take a while, but you are already paying for this stuff, might as well make the city pay for it. File a claim and they will, if they believe it's true, will pay you back.

I'm still waiting for my check to come in, I spent 600$, 329 on rim, 240 on tire.
Keep the receipt from the dealer and send them pictures of your old + a copy of the receipt.
It'll take 2-3 months for the investigation and a few weeks for the check to come in.

I did mine March 12, 2007, filed a claim the 15th. They are still on it, but the Department of Transportation is real gay about it.

exactly what i was going to say. It was in an article in some car magazine, and they said that the city is obligated to pay for some, if not all of the damage.
