Possible to tow a jet ski?
Possible to tow a jet ski?
do you guys tow anything with your cars?
i would like to get a jet ski but the problem is i dont know what to tow it with. I know just get a truck but dont want to get rid of the car. My brother had an old cougar and towed a jet ski with it. We never had a problem just had to be careful b/c that was a rwd car.

I read through the manual (Hopefully this is a credible source) and they said it isn't recommended to tow ANYTHING.
Others might have towed with a TL, but I'm just going to follow the manual.

Yes, I put a hitch on my 2006 TL to tow my jetski. I have been towing it since last year and it does perfectly fine. No problem with power or hills and it does well pulling out of the water since its FWD and the tires don't get near the water. My jetski is a big 3-seater and gross weight of 1400lbs (jetski & trailer). The hitch fits nicely and only shows the 1 1/4 receiver under the bumper. The wiring, however, is a pain to wire. You have to run a wire to the batter for separate power and then tap into each wire on the left taillight and one wire on the right taillight. All in all I am pleased with how my TL does towing my jetski. I have also seen a TSX towing a similar jetski at my local lake, so that reassured me that my TL wouldnt have a problem.
I've towed with my Maxima for years with no problems. It wasn't real happy towing three thousand pounds when I moved but it handled it. 11-15mpg at 90mph wasn't tooooo bad.
I'll be putting a hitch on my '07 TL-S 6mt as soon as I get it home.

you my friend, are a completely idiot and a danger to every single person on the road
so i would look into something such as a old toyota pickup or 4runner, especially if you want something that is reliable (especially if it is going to sit most of the time, and get neglected)
also OP, idk where you plan on putting in that jetski, but i am assuming more then likely in salt water, i would not be wanting to even attempt of dipping the ass end of the car in that shit, and that amount of rust issues it can cause
let alone when you are done for the day, DO you really want to put all that wet gear and such inside of the TL, or getting your leather seats wet (which more then likely won't last long)

FYI the thread is 4 years old, i'm sure the OP has found something already
Please don't bother to post pics of it. For your own sake.
Sell you my 1990 740 Turbo Volvo. Class 2 hitch and rated to tow +3500lbs...its worth a look at, you can find them cheap and their easy to mod, not to mention they are bullet proof. I'm at 265k miles running 16psi on the stock turbo. Just a thought.
err yes, thats why I agreed with the posters I quoted calling him a donkey. Greco was just failing himself for giving advice to the OP of a 4 year old thread in post 12...not the post about calling the 90 mph fool a donkey.
so
yourself

Simple Math:
Curb Weight of TL: ~3,500 lbs
GVWR: ~4,500 lbs.
Passengers + Cargo + Tongue weight + tow < 1000 lbs.
Typical Jet Ski & Trailer is already at the 1000 lbs mark. If it's a single ski and you tow it only a short distance and only occasionally, I'd say it's okay. Otherwise, unless you're willing to burn out your transmission.. Get a truck.

And I'd put the jetski and trailer weight more towards the one ton mark if its more like a three passenger one. By no means are they light. I don't know what's scarier...the thought of towing a jetski with a TL or launching the jetski at the boat launch, with the ass end of the TL in the water like this. Thread
