Possibility of custom fab parts for 3Gs

Hey guys, I've been in contact with a custom fab shop in my area and they are interested in creating some parts for the 3G TLs.

Now, I am not part of his company but I am a potential customer. We ran thru some ideas and I wanted to do a little legwork to see what people would be interested in.

As most of you know, most fab shops won't make just a couple catbacks, strut bars etc... they usually require at least 10-20 committed people, depending on the product.

I've listed a couple ideas in the poll so please take the time to vote. If theres something I missed, please post it in the thread and I can run it by them.

Thanks,
Jason

OK it won't let me edit...

I (we) opted for these just because they are either really limited (selection wise) or are more expensive than they should be

I forgot to add CUSTOM COLD AIR INTAKE to the list. Just a metal tube but most probably cheaper than AEM etc... then you can purchase your filter of choice.

^ That is pretty useless BUT at least it shows interest... which is a good thing! Maybe the shop can make them ALL.

^ I agree 110% about the wheel spacers. Thats why I brought that up.

As for as the CF goes, I don't know if thats possible. We were thinking of a polyurethane or fiberglass one.

I voted for roof spoiler and front strut bar.......edfc is waiting in my closet until I get one in my hands.

I've been drooling over the Sarona spoiler, but the price is too high for me once it gets painted its a no go. If they can get something that looks like it and is in the $125-$175 price range they will have a hit.

Sweet. If/when the roof spoilers are ready, we can have the option of having them painted or just primed. I know a GOOD paint shop by me that color matches to the T. Although I do have a NBP and color matching is super easy.

The front strut bar is actually in its prototyping stages I believe.

Once we get more hits, maybe the shop can start the design process for one of these products

Well the goal isn't only to save money. Having a larger selection is always better right?

A little friendly competition among fabricators only benefits the end user.

How about a new hood for the TL? Something that looks identical to the BMW M3 ALMS? I was thinking of eventually attempting to do one myself in the future.. but if a fab. can do it, why not?

Rumor has it that the front strut bar just needs mounting brackets and its good for a test fitting. Unlike the Cusco bar for the TSX, this one SHOULD replace your stock one. Nothing confirmed yet though.

Keep voting guys! Something WILL come of this... I'm not just blowing hot air

wtf? why are people voting for more custom exhaust stuff? We have what...5 or 6 exhausts out there already?

1) Comptech
2) Greddy
3) ATLP Type S
4) ATLP Base (coming out soon)
5) Xcelerate's exhaust
and even 6) custom fab from a local shop

I hate to complain, but it just doesn't make sense, since every custom exhaust thread has been littered with people requesting different tips.

A few people want "OEM looking tips," while a few others want "porsche style tips," and still, another few want "square duals."

The list just goes on and on. Then when there is some what of a majority, only one type gets made, which leaves the other 4-5 groups of people looking for another "custom exhaust thread" to litter with what they want.

i voted for the strut bar, b/c it's what a lot of us have been waiting for. Especially the ones who are runnin' Tein SS. It'll be a great part for the use of the EDFC, as well as a great compliment to the RSB for more stability in handling.

I know there are at LEAST 30 people here who have been patiently waiting on the 2-3 members who have last stated that they were fabricating a front strut bar, and here we are 2-3 years later still waiting on that front strut bar.

actually...all that talking was almost like lol

I would like to see that CF roof spoiler and the strut bar....but.....when I had my Protege5, there used to be a 3 or 4 point, depending on how you want to look at it, strut bar that really made the handling aggresive. I would like to see something like that for the TL...

@ Laxplaya11385: Fair enough. You have a good point... however, there will always be people that want something new/different.

Regarding the front strut bar, I will have a better update this weekend. It seems like roof spoilers and front strut bars are the way to go. I will talk to the shop about these items AND about becoming a vendor so the mods don't get angry again.

Personally, I want to invest in a catback exhaust. I'm not a fan of the quad exhaust so that eliminates the ATLP and Excelerate ones. The Greddy is much too loud for my taste. I haven't seen the CT one on a 3G yet... only on a 2G. So the only place to go is custom...

The reason why I thought of wheel spacers is because the currently available ones are overpriced, IMO. Also because I need some badly! Haha

I don't have the exact details on the strut bar but I'll see what I can find out.

As for a CF spoiler, I spoke to the shop yesterday and they said it *might* be possible to do this... BUT as you all know, CF is expensive and if they went thru the trouble of making a roof spoiler in CF, they'd def make one with a cheaper material (fiberglass, polyurethane for example) that would sell more units. Again, this is just speculation.

^ Eh, a roof spoiler and the Aspec front lip spoiler are two completely different animals. I'm not sure if their non-metal work is that extensive. Will ask for you though.

Oh please ask definitely. I'm sure if they can fabricate the 04-06 aspec front lip to fit on 07-08, THERE WILL BE TONS OF BUYERS since the current ones are "yuck"!

Excelerate has a non-quad tip exhaust. Excelerate's TL exhaust

I think the Comptech looks similar. I'm not 100% sure on the similarities in exhaust note thought.

OK so I got some more information regarding the front strut bars... most of the first prototype is ready for a test fit. They just need to laser cut some mounting brackets. Once all the factory brackets are duplicated onto the custom FSB, then they will probably start a GB. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for this!

I will have to remind them about the roof spoiler... I think they want to focus on one item at a time.

About how much would the FSB cost? or can we not discuss prices in this thread? and i agree with Laxplaya11385 , we don't need another exhaust system for the TL, we should try to focus on getting more parts made that arent available for the TL yet.

The one of the main issues is the Tein EDFC... search around for the details.

I don't think a custom exhaust is being looked into anymore. Also, I don't think we are allowed to discuss pricing yet... even if we were, I would have to ask!
