Is this pinging

While I'm able take care of most maintenance and other work on my car myself, I am admittedly not very good with engine mechanics. When I am under medium to heavy acceleration I sometimes get a metallic "rattle" that sounds like it's coming from the engine bay, actually more under the car. It's pretty subtle but I can usually hear it.

Is this pinging?

08 TL-S with 3200 miles. I haven't noticed any pinging but then again I haven't listened for it. I'll have to check it out. Thanks

i dont think my car pings...

i havent really noticed any "Valve chatter" cruising or accelerating hard.

i got a CAI on it and anything above 4k rpms alll you can hear is intake.

it did throw a CEL light a few months ago for System too Lean.
came on here and searched the code it threw. and a lot of people said it was bad gas. so i immediately went and filled the tank with sunoco 93, light went away.

the CEL came on with a no name brand gas i got from a station i dont really go to unless i have to. never went back there, cel has not come one since

i got about 7200 miles on my 2008 TLS 6MT

ill try to pay more attention.

i use 92 octane from Wawa, and 93 Octane from Lukoil and Sunoco.

if your on a hill and in a high gear wot, you should hear it chatter... i wouldn't do it for long, but it might be a for sure way to hear it, and notice the sound...

Mine is an '08 Type S with 7k miles. It pings expecially accelerating uphill around 3-4k RPMs.

I dont own a TL. But when I went to my Acura dealer a couple months ago, I asked them if they put premium fuel in their cars. I was shocked when they said no. They said they put regular in all their cars. I wouldn't be surprised if other dealers were they same way. This may be the cause of the pinging you heard while test driving.

'08 TL-S, bought about 2 weeks ago, put on 1800 miles of hwy driving. The car did not ping/chatter when I bought it (or i just didn't notice it). The car does seem to ping/chatter when at idle, and it does get a little louder after miles, I believe this to be break-in on the engine/etc... but under normal driving conditions/acceleration/anything above idle it is fine. I am guessing they are ideling the engine really low to save gas... so it might ping/chatter a little... I might try a thicker/heavier oil at next oil change to see if it helps with this problem. I don't have to worry about winter temps because I am in florida so a thicker/heavier oil should not be too much of a problem for me.

You're hearing injector/valvetrain noise which is normal. It's pretty much impossible to ping at idle. The noise doesn't hurt anything but going with a good 30wt oil reduced my noise by about half. All I hear now is the click from the injectors but otherwise the engine is super smooth and quiet. Again, I didn't go with a thicker oil to address the noise but rather I feel a 30wt is much more suited to my hot climate.
