I was wondering if you can play DVD Movies on the NAVI. I heard that you could but only when you had your car parked. If this is the case, is there any way to get around that?

You can not play DVDs on the nav screen with the stick set up. You need to purchase and instiall a module by avelectronics for just over $500. This will give you the ability to hook up a computer, reverse camera, tv tuner, game system, mp3 player, video player............
I believe all is done with out cutting any wires and you can swap beteween these functions and the stock nav view with the flip of a switch
If you do a search it has been dicussed in the past and probaly outline far better

This question has been answered before so if I may be bold enough to take on this part 2, I don't think it has been:
Do all Acura models share the same DVD nav system in the trunk. If the TSX/ TL has the same system as the MDX should there be a plug somewhere for a camera that will engage when the car is in reverse? I would like to do this mod, but bypass the $500 avelectronics item, of which I would never use the other features. I just want the camera and this could be much easier if a camera could be in essense "plug and play" to the nav system.
I know some of you have numerous Acuras including the MDX, is the camera just plugged in the DVD system?
Thanks

I don't think warranty can be voided unless the problem is directly linked to the mod. It uses harnesses and is plug and play. Worst comes to worst unplug it and take it out before bringing it in. It has been done on the TSX and MDX so it might be worth while to drop by their forums and do a quick search. Lots pics on MDX I believe

Does the Nav have L/R RCA jack inputs? Short of the sexy MP3 navigation on the touch screen, I'd like to plug my iPod into the head unit without the need for a powered in-line FM modulator.
Does the Nav have inputs?

Thanks moreace......a little heartbreaking news.....
Went into the local car stereo shop on Thursday and got excited when the guy told me that a company (wasn't Blitz, but someone like them) was releasing a harness for Acura nav's that would not only get the iPod's sound through the system but also would allow folder/ID3 navigation right on the touch screen. Bouncing off the walls, I asked the guy to call them right away and find out when they'd be releasing it......they said in 2 short weeks.
"It's really for the CL, but it'll work in the TL" he said to me.
I said "will I still be able to use my integrated XM radio?"
Frowning, he said "It has a built in XM radio? Sorry buddy, but there is no MP3 navigable solution for any head unit of any sort that has an integrated XM radio. There's not enough capacity for it to do both."
What really sucks is that Alpine is the company that makes our nav's and they are the company pioneering iPod integration in factory head units. Another stroke of bad luck- Panasonic is a company that is pioneering the use of WMA compression, and our wonderful 5.1 system is apparently "too good" for WMA quality.
This blows.

So close
sounds great
builds it up....... then
crash and burn
Can't have everything, but I sure do want it all
id3 text would be nice
even older and cheaper cars have it for teh radio
if you do the avelectronics mod, tehy ahve a 10 disc changer that can hold DVDs, play movies, play mp3s...........
does get expensive though

I've got the Alpine solution in my soon-to-be traded in RL. 6 disc MP3 CD changer in the trunk and the gumstick display customed in the RL's ashtray (ID3, song names, mini remote, etc.) but I'm going iPod this time no matter what. Who needs to burn discs every time you pull a track or two off of k___a anyway?
I've never experienced XM though.....since the longest trip I take regularly is 5 hours long, XM may just do the trick and let me leave my MP3's in the house.

Racer
unless you are wedded to your own tunes there is no need for mp3 when you have xm unless you dont like the sound quality. its not like mp3 sound quality is great. its just stolen music for the most part anyway.
