Pirelli's, Michelins, Falkens

Anybody have any experience with the PZero-Nero M&S, Pilot Sport AS, or the Ziex ZE-512s? Tire Rack doesn't carry the Falkens, but the Pirellis are rated higher than the Michelins. :rocketwho

I've got the PZero Nero M&S in 245/45-17 and love them. Handle great in the dry and wet, fairly quiet, and they have a high treadwear rating.

Cool

TireRack doesn't provide very objective and neutral reviews about tires, but it does offer the straight and simple idea whether the particular tire is good or bad.

Lots of ppl in this forum trend to use Michelins, therefore, Pilot Sport AS is popular choice. Some other ppl pretty like Falkens, not only are they inexpensive, but also have outstanding rating in many reviews or magazines. PZero is good one, too, however, not many users use it here, IMO.

I originally had the Pirelli tires. Good tire, not bad, but still not satisfactory. Changed to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Big difference. Michelin much better.

I should be getting my Yoko ES100 in 255/40/17 installed this week. I had them on my old car & liked them and at $116 each they are a good buy.

I have the Pirelli's and like them a lot so far. Only about 300 miles on them.

What was the biggest differences? Handling, noise, smoothness, etc.

Primarily, the ride or smoothness of the tire.

I had Falkens on my previous car - I thought they were great - great ratings, inexpensive too. I thought they wore great. Great in the rain - I had cooper's on there before and they were horrible in rain - very hard tire. I cannot comment on the ride as the car was a Mazda MX-6 so I was like 4 inches from the ground so I felt and heard everything! It is hard to recommend any tire as they can behave differently on different cars. I am however going to try them on my Acura once my Bridgestone's hopefully melt away....

I ordered them online.

Had to buy two replacement tires during a recent trip, because rears were worn out. I got BS 750 and had them installed on the front. They flat spot way worse than the EL 42s. Perhaps BS can'y make a W rated tire without flat spotting.

My advise to everybody that is going to replace their tires with something other than the new redesigned EL42's from the dealer. Spend the extra money and buy the Michelin Pilot A/S. The reason I say this is because I first replace my EL42's with Pirelli PZero Nero M/S. The Pirelli's has flat spotting just like the EL42's. They do handle and ride firmer than the EL42's, which I liked. The one thing I was trying to get away from was the flat spotting.

I want back to the tire store where I purchased the Pirelli's and a traded them in on the Michelin Pilot A/S. My car sat for 2 day without driving it. I got in the car this morning and there was no flat spotting with these tires. The ride is smoother and the handling is as good or better than the Pirelli's.

I guess that is why you pay more for Michelins, they are the best tire on the road today!

Anyone with the Michelins....Are they difficult to get balanced? My only other experience with them was that the had to be road force balanced to get it right. Was a pain in the neck to go to a place that had the Hunter road force balancer.

I have had the Falken ZE512's for the last 4 months. Great handling in both dry and wet conditions.

I would go with bridgestone LS-Z. great tire in snow, rain and even ice!!! The biggest thing i notice in these tires is the road noise, its is by far the least compared to Michelins or Pirelli's and i have no trouble with flatspotting and vibrations!!!!

I had the PZero M+S installed about 2 weeks ago. I've got just under 500 miles on them now, and they handle much better than the EL42's. Definitely more grip and allows for more confident cornering. The ride is also very smooth and quiet. Have not tested them in wet weather though. They also flatspot however, but not as much as the BS. There's slight vibration in the morning for about 5 minutes, then smooths out. And I'm in CA, so not even cold at all here. I don't like the way it looks as much because the sidewalls are more curved than usual, IMHO. Plus there's no rim protector. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably go for the Falken 512 as I have not read anything negative about them yet.

I have Falken 512s on my 2k2 Maxima and they're just AWESOME. But then again, my previous set were Potenza RE92s-----which totally stunk!!!

I've had the pzero neros (235-40-18) for about 700 miles, they do flat spot but are real smoth after 5 min, they handle nice and are good in the rain, but that vibration is a real pain, trying diff tire pressure.

The 245's should be a bit wider than the OEM 235's, do they protect the rim at all ?

Attached is a review of the Michelin Pilot AS

http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/hl/pilot.htm

It does mention that this tire uses a Polyester cord vs the EL42's Nylon cord. BS has told me that any Nylon cord tire will flat spot, do not know if the Pilots flat spot with a polyester cord.

I just recently got Falken Azenis ST-115's (stock size). These are ZR-rated summer tires. They have excellent grip, quieter than even stock tires, gives a very smooth ride, and have a long tread life (360). They're also less expensive than Michelins, Goodyears, Bridgestones, etc....only $100/tire (stock size).
