Performance 6MT 2006 TL Build 🏁

Hello Acura community wish all the best to our high maintenance beasts! Wanted to start documenting my progress of building my base model 6MT I bought the end of last year 2022. Currently the car has 136k miles on the original motor and trans with a few performance oriented mods. When I first got the car it was bone stock except for Vossen CV3 19in and Tein Street Advance coilovers. Not long after I installed an AEM V2 CAI, lw crank pulley, full exhaust, and different 18in rims. My current long term goal in Jan 2023 is to make 350whp N/A on stock comp. My short term goal is to get a custom 3in single exit never before replicated exhaust setup installed using RV6 V3 HFPC, PLM catless j-pipe, Vibrant UQ resonator, APEXi WS2 muffler. Follow me on IG: passionp.ua6mt to stay updated!

Current mod list 📈:

-Varrstoen 18x9.5in rims on 225mm/40 tires-Tein Street Advance coilovers

-HIC full visor kit

-Type-s taillights/side markers

-[04-06] A-spec body kit

-heavy metal shift knob

-JDM speed hood spacers

-350z Carbon fiber intake duct

-MDP clutch pedal stopper
Performance Wise 🏁:

-AEM V2 CAI

-Acuity shifter cable bushing

-Mishimoto thermostat/coolant reservoir

-RV6 Highflow pre-cats V3

-PLM J-pipe

-Vibrant UQ Resonator

-Dual Borla S-type muff->custom 3in tips

-Halferland lightweight crank pulley & Short Shifter bearing

-Roar Pedal throttle sensor

I just want to make sure I'm understanding that this aftermarket CAI is pulling from a sawzall'd duct about 3" above the factory CAI duct.

Exhaust tips that point up at the white body & bumper.

You must've never had a white car before.

Must have spent all your money on mods and can't afford $15 hood struts.

Its my first car haha but the angle doesn’t point fumes at the bumper so I don’t have to deal with cleaning it. Switching to a cleaner single exit setup soon

Does it rain or snow there?
Just cutting them vertically will make them look better, and you can then afford a hood strut or two...

Out here in Fresno Cali so yeah it rains time to time and no snow luckily. I think this new APEXi 4.5” tip will do the job though I’ll also be trimming the plastic on the A-spec bumper to give a nice view of the Japanese muffler and prevent air from adding drag 🏁

don't buy used hood struts, they are cheap enough new. checkout rockauto or amazon...even knockoffs will work for a long time.
the white wheels look SO much better...this car body just needs 18, no bigger...(I downsized years ago).
Get yourself the two little missing plastic pieces that are missing on each end of the plastic guard under the front bumper. It helps
make the front end look lower and looks weird missing.
I don't dig the raised rear hood spacers but I do understand that this car heatsoaks pretty badly.

Overall, I love your enthusiasm and appreciate you sharing. I try not to get old and grumpy and judgmental when the fresh blood
comes in doing new shit. I dig it.

Personally I would leave it a dual exhaust setup, the rear bumper is made for it and looks silly with a giant can on one side. Also, I wouldn't chop of the rear aspec since they are getting pretty rare to find, you'd lose all value of it if you were to cut it up. These cars are quick, but not fast. The gains you'd get from chopping it will be next to none.

I had the dash on my OG TL replaced by Acura...by the time I sold it the outline of the airbag was starting to creep through...
TL-S that was always garaged ended up cracking after that...my buddy put a new used one in his TL-S and it cracked almost immediately.
Best case, keep it from seeing a lot of hot to cold cycles and it'll last the longest.

I’ll take your advice and stock by a basic auto part store for some hood struts. Should help my daily oil checks become less of a hassle haha. I agree 18s are the best size to run on the 3G aside from 17s with thick sidewall 🤤. Btw I don’t plan to lower the car so anything to help make it look low ill consider…

Trust me the hood spacers we’re ugly in my opinion before I saw them in person! Adds some character to the front end and like you said helps with the lovely J-series heat soak

I appreciate your response boss it’s nice to see people still appreciate these cars as much as I do! My goal is to inspire and inform with the little knowledge I have at 19yrs old lol

dual exit is more eye appealing but with a quality muffler I think you’ll like what I got planned! It took some thought but yolo with cutting the A-spec bumper I’m never selling the car and have a full customer wide body visioned 🧐. You’re right out the factory a 14sec 1/4mile car isn’t fast but watch me knock down seconds and document consistent 10sec passes…

I was amazed to find not a single hairline but soon that should change. I’ll be installing 85a Innovative motor/trans mounts that should shake the life out of my car. Just here to motivate others to be different and do what makes you happy!

If you multi-quote button you can actually make all your quotes ONE post.
Absolutely, man...love to see the newer generation dedicated to the cause.
10 second passes!??! You must have a Gerzy bear upgrade in mind.

Thanks for the tip and no supercharger isn’t my style. Although my uasquad leader mythik.559 on IG is going that route. I plan to use NOS but keep in mind I will not spray until the motor is built! After we see what this little 3.2L makes all motor it’ll be time to up the compression to 12:1 adding stronger piston/rod. Shooting for a reliable 5-600whp NOS setup with an 8k RPM redline utilizing this long OEM 3.29 final drive. To my knowledge there is FD upgrades for the 3.5L transmission only?

nitrous? what happened to 350whp on stock compression?

p2r sells 3.55 & higher final drives for manual j series (except the tl sh awd). But, prepare for a lonnnnggg wait.
I got impatient and canx my order after waiting nearly 2 months.

Was never a fan of the shin buster exhaust. Dual exhaust or bust.

Wow..first time using this multi quote anyways. Im good off the spark plug for bing pows my buddy with a 2V does that. I understand visually single exit isn’t eye candy but the goal is performance and to be unique! Some people are happy to barely make 300whp but not me…stay tune 350whp N/A soon! YouTube channel also coming to document the process and create a blueprint for people to use!
