04 TL, AT.

Going to put in a K&N.

Any opinions?

Is there anyone out there who has tried to achieve the xtra 15 or so HP from tuning (Mugen, etc)?

Appreciate any thoughts here, including install poitners on the K&N.

Apparently, our TL version is not available in Japan. As such, there are no Mugen parts available. That's the info I got when I checked with King Motorsports.

Comptech seems like the only player, another two months before their supercharger is available. Vortech is not interested, they're too involved with other development projects that'll keep'em busy for the rest of the year.

NOS maybe?

They told me if they complete all current projects for the year, then they would entertain other projects. There have quite a few platform changes in their normal line of business (domestic).

I inquired specifically about the TSX, TL, Pilot (yes, the Pilot), new Si, and RSX-S. Also interesting to note, the import market hasn't been as big as they expected. So maybe their interest has diminished? Their last import product was the 350Z/G35 Coupe.

And yes, I offered up my TL if they were interested in proto-typing a kit for it. A risky offer (if they take), but someone's gotta do it.

I was out in their area for some time and I've personally been to their shop (more than I'd like to mention), they have an impressive setup.

i believe it. it shouldn't be that difficult since the engine's are almost the same. just a few differences.

No link on their website, most companies don't update their website enough. I spoke with them last week. I got curious about additional mods, outside of their springs.

Call them and hear for yourself.

There are not going to be any power adders like N20 (not NOS, Nitrous Oxide Systems is a trade name) or blowers. At 11:1 the bottom end won't take it.

Mmmm... it's possible to go with a blower, it'll be a lower PSI pulley, but it's been done before. Besides, it's man-made, so man can re-make/re-mod. Someone will find a way, there's always someone crazy enough to risk a blowing (read breaking) an engine in the pursuit of more power.

Of course, we could all go back to the motor and do a little build work. I wouldn't mind slapping the mini-vinyl sticker back on a car......

STROKED AND BLOWN!!!

Ahhhhhh (reminiscing the Mustang days).

It's still 11:1. You can't do anything with that. Remember you still have to run pump gas.

5-0s were diff'rent...lower compression...could easily handle 8-12PSI.

Even with alcohol or water injection you're going to have MAJOR detonation trying to put a power adder on a factory 11:1 motor.

Then there's the drive-by-wire problem. Any power adder would require new software to deal with drive-by-wire.

No doubt, Skeedatl. I'm merely, stating that anything is possible. There's always more to be had, it's just a matter of what you're willing to do to get it.

If you can twin turbo a Viper and Ferrari, you can certainly boost a TL.

Compression? Replace gasket for lower compression.

Drive by wire? Computer mod, yes. Maybe a piggyback system or new ecu configuration.

I'm sure you know all that already, being a GN owner. My SVO packed quite a punch too after some engine/turbo mods.

The difference is bottom end. Vipers and Ferrari's have higher quality/stronger bottom end components. And even then, they fight detonation problems. Vipers are "only" 9.6:1 permitted room for a little boost. But there is a world of difference between 9.6 or 10 to 1 and 11:1. When you see turboed Vipers like Hennessey 800TT you see them coming with all new bottom ends. I haven't seen any pump gas turbos for Ferrari's factory 11:1 motors like in the 575M, 612 or Enzo.

Aaaarrggghhh!!!

Okay, Skeedatl, I give. But I must reference my comment about build work on the motor. Have had enough street/race motors built to know how it's suppose to work.

I'm just saying it's possible.
