Pep Boys Royal Purple 5QTS + Filter $35 off

Hey Guys,

Pepboys is having a $35 off Royal Purple oil change. Includes filter. I am usually a M1 or Pennzoil guy buy might try it this one time since its just a bit more than a Walmart 5QT.

Deal is good till end of month for those who have a Pepboys nearby.

Yeah it came out to $30 + tax for me after the coupon. I didn't really need the filter since I bought a six pack of OEM filters from one of the vendors a while back which I am trying to use up. But I did a quick search and they are suppose to be okay.

Just to clarify further this is a DIY deal so there is no confusion.

At that price, I'd love to try it but sadly, they don't make 5w-50.

how do you guys feel about changing brands.... I was using mobil one 5w-20 for good while then switched to 5w-20 extended performance for two times and since i could not really get good deals on it i again switched to castrol edge titanium which is always available at Walmart for a really good price for the 5qt jug. Even tough i believe the mobil one extended is a better option, castrol is a good compromise for its availability and price.

I would like to try royal purple as well, especially for the good price. But i dont know if it is good to change brands like that. Im trying to stick with castrol edge.

You'll be fine. I switch every now and then.

Rotella T6 is better

However, M1 is all the Z06 and TL consume.

Or does someone want to point me to the research posted on RP.com

Bought some 5w-20 and a filter yesterday for $33.
Never really cared for the oil but the filter makes it a great deal.

Picked up this and changed my oil yesterday. Thinking of stocking up for the next couple of oil changes. Anyone know if they have this deal often?

Did you check and see if they had S2000 filters? Those will work on our cars.

$32.59, after tax. Bought 10qts + 2 filters for $65.18, since the coupon allows for 2 orders.

$29.94 before tax for one order, $59.88 before tax for two.

Go ahead and purchase it. They'll have it shipped free to your Pep Boys location of choice for pick up. At least they do here.

I have literally been searching for the independent research that used to be located on calsci.org regarding the comparison of different oils*. I remember this study specifically because I was most amazed at the results. Anyway, the only thing RP had on Rotella was better gas mileage. Even this was marginal.

I apologize that I cannot add data to the discussion but I honestly gave it quite an effort.

EDIT: *The oils tested were all synthetics.

FYI everyone, not trying to hyjack this thread but I just found out from a recent trip to Costco (thanks Sandy) that Mobile1 is on sale. a 6-pack of 1Qts is $26.99 figured I'd add it to this thread instead of making another for the same subject.

I got in one more deal, using the s2000 filter instead of the standard filter. Good thing many don't know about this because there were plenty for s2000 filters in stock!

Thanks again for posting this deal.

What's the part # on the S2k filter?

Or do they have a booklet with part #'s?

I got this deal at my local Pepboys for <$33 out the door... Thanks for the heads up. My stockpile was running low. I have 3 quarts 10w40 for my Mazda, and 4 quarts of 5w20 for the TL. I just used 3 quarts of 5w20 for my civic.

BTW I got my 10w40 for $5/qt when they were changing the bottles. The new bottles with bigger lids are the new SN API specification and the older bottles are SL API with Synerlec additive. They had to remove the Synerlec to comply with the new API standards.

Some articles on the new bottle and formulation
