Pep Boys Royal Purple 5QTS + Filter $35 off

Hey Guys,

Pepboys is having a $35 off Royal Purple oil change. Includes filter. I am usually a M1 or Pennzoil guy buy might try it this one time since its just a bit more than a Walmart 5QT.

Deal is good till end of month for those who have a Pepboys nearby.

Damn thats a pretty good deal ! Wish i saw this before , i just did a complete Amsoil change ( oil and their filter ) .

l0stnyc 10-21-2012 06:26 PM

Yeah it came out to $30 + tax for me after the coupon. I didn't really need the filter since I bought a six pack of OEM filters from one of the vendors a while back which I am trying to use up. But I did a quick search and they are suppose to be okay.

Just to clarify further this is a DIY deal so there is no confusion.

BlitzBlackGSXR 10-21-2012 06:41 PM

I may just go buy that just to have when its time to change it again.

SpiderX1016 10-21-2012 07:02 PM

At that price, I'd love to try it but sadly, they don't make 5w-50.

BukvaMan 10-21-2012 07:31 PM

how do you guys feel about changing brands.... I was using mobil one 5w-20 for good while then switched to 5w-20 extended performance for two times and since i could not really get good deals on it i again switched to castrol edge titanium which is always available at Walmart for a really good price for the 5qt jug. Even tough i believe the mobil one extended is a better option, castrol is a good compromise for its availability and price.

I would like to try royal purple as well, especially for the good price. But i dont know if it is good to change brands like that. Im trying to stick with castrol edge.

You'll be fine. I switch every now and then.

Rotella T6 is better :)

However, M1 is all the Z06 and TL consume.

Or does someone want to point me to the research posted on RP.com ;)

SpiderX1016 10-24-2012 10:32 PM

Bought some 5w-20 and a filter yesterday for $33.
Never really cared for the oil but the filter makes it a great deal.

HondaTech85 10-25-2012 11:04 AM

I am going to pick this up. My stop of RP was getting low...

Undying Dreams 10-25-2012 11:08 AM

Definitely going to jump on this. Oil change will be coming up soon, mid as well get a sic deal on this stuff!

bigb0ss 10-25-2012 09:12 PM

Picked up this and changed my oil yesterday. Thinking of stocking up for the next couple of oil changes. Anyone know if they have this deal often?

lusid 10-26-2012 10:24 AM

What were you guys "after tax amount"?

With Purple , will you guys still follow the MID for your next oil change?

i dont regularly check the ads, but when I do it's never Royal Purple. If you like their oil i would jump on it.

Undying Dreams 10-26-2012 10:33 AM

Yes, I will continue to read the MID.

BINGO! I have the same question is the Rotella better or comparable to Royal Purple?

lusid 10-27-2012 11:17 AM

Dang filters were out of stock. Only 2 in Minnesota.

Did you check and see if they had S2000 filters? Those will work on our cars.

losiglow 10-27-2012 04:47 PM

Picked some up yesterday. Thanks for the heads up!

$32.59, after tax. Bought 10qts + 2 filters for $65.18, since the coupon allows for 2 orders.

$29.94 before tax for one order, $59.88 before tax for two.

Go ahead and purchase it. They'll have it shipped free to your Pep Boys location of choice for pick up. At least they do here.

princelybug 10-27-2012 05:37 PM

BTW, MSRP for a RP oil filter = $14.99. :ugh:  :yikes:  :thud:

k1x 10-27-2012 07:00 PM

Got mines too thanks op for the heads up

I have literally been searching for the independent research that used to be located on calsci.org regarding the comparison of different oils*. I remember this study specifically because I was most amazed at the results. Anyway, the only thing RP had on Rotella was better gas mileage. Even this was marginal.

I apologize that I cannot add data to the discussion but I honestly gave it quite an effort.

EDIT: *The oils tested were all synthetics.

FYI everyone, not trying to hyjack this thread but I just found out from a recent trip to Costco (thanks Sandy) that Mobile1 is on sale. a 6-pack of 1Qts is $26.99  figured I'd add it to this thread instead of making another for the same subject.

Great deal but doesn't include a filter.

I know, I wasnt saying it was a comperable combo just putting it out there that there's a good deal on oil at Costco right now.

4drviper 10-28-2012 06:21 PM

this should be RP's MSRP.

lusid 10-30-2012 08:16 AM

I got in one more deal, using the s2000 filter instead of the standard filter. Good thing many don't know about this because there were plenty for s2000 filters in stock!

Thanks again for posting this deal.

Undying Dreams 10-30-2012 08:26 AM

What's the part # on the S2k filter?

Or do they have a booklet with part #'s? :tomato:

lusid 10-30-2012 08:35 AM

Royal Purple 10-2808 Oil Filter = S2000 filter.

Undying Dreams 10-30-2012 06:00 PM

Sweet, thanks OP. I just got the 5 quarts and filter for ~$33

Had to get 5W-30 though, they were out of 20.

HondaTech85 11-03-2012 02:42 PM

I got this deal at my local Pepboys for <$33 out the door... Thanks for the heads up. My stockpile was running low. I have 3 quarts 10w40 for my Mazda, and 4 quarts of 5w20 for the TL. I just used 3 quarts of 5w20 for my civic.

BTW I got my 10w40 for $5/qt when they were changing the bottles. The new bottles with bigger lids are the new SN API specification and the older bottles are SL API with Synerlec additive. They had to remove the Synerlec to comply with the new API standards.

Some articles on the new bottle and formulation
