Passenger Seat Controls Mod - Assist Request

I'll keep this short & sweet. I'm a paraplegic and use a wheelchair. When I get in the car by myself, I lean over to the passenger side & move the seat forward in order to stow my chair in the back. Life would be a lot simpler if I could run wiring from the passenger seat to a location that wouldn't require me to lean over.
I had a guy quote me an amount that he would do it for, but I'm ridiculously frugal. And this seems like a mod that even I could tackle with some help. Or I could be wrong and maybe should come up off of the cash.
If anyone on the board could give me some tips, pointers or better yet if you're anywhere near Baltimore, link up with me to get this done I would really appreciate it.
BTW: I'll document it with pics when it happens also.

shouldn't be hard. its just a switch. if it were me i'd splice the wires and run them to a switch closer to you that way both you and the passenger could have control. and a good way to F with them LMAO

My thoughts exactly, but will I have to remove the seat or can I access the wires with the seat in place?

you have to remove the seat. also disconnect the battery. do not reconnect the battery until the seat is reattached.

Might be a bit more complicated but also make things easier for you. If you use a remote(car alarm, OEM Fob, etc) you can possibly have them make a small RF circuit you can trigger with a button on the FOB.

I got to thinking and had an idea. Since I use the memory positions for my drivers seat to lay back while I stow my chair, maybe my guy can tap into the memory and I can set the passenger seat with the same memory and I wouldn't need to do any manual adjustments at all.
Has anyone done any mods with the memory buttons?

Wiring it to the memory function would be ideal for you. It would be automatic.Get a quote on that as well. But, your passenger would have to manually adjust it to their own settings. To just put in the switch, $125.00 sounds reasonable.

Toyota Camry in Taiwan has an extra pair of switch button right on the left side of the passenger seat, that gives the driver the access to control the passenger seat's position...

It would be cool to get another factory switch and maybe hide it in the center armrest?

http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...All&vinsrch=no

Switch is $32
81253-SDB-A71 SWITCH ASSY., R. (4 WAY) 1 2006 TL 42.90 32.18

I'd go with black control knobs regardless of color if you're going to put in the center console or something:

Requires two knobs - A and B:

010 81251-SDB-A71ZA KNOB (A)
( GRAPHITE BLACK ) 1 2006 TL 3.82 2.87

011 81252-SDB-A71ZA KNOB (B)
( GRAPHITE BLACK ) 1 2006 TL 5.45 4.09

$39.14 (+shipping/tax) for the OEM parts.

Here's how I would do it

1) Unplug battery
2) Take out passenger seat
3) Remove center armrest
4) Extend harness that connects to the control knobs to the center armrest [run it under the carpet for a clean look]
5) Put seat/console back in but leave the harness disconnected; you'll have a non working set of controls at this point, no biggy
6) Connect the new controller & knobs in the center armrest

If you go to sell the car, you can do the opposite - put everything back to factory, you should be able to find molex connectors that will let you create a plug and play harness so you won't do any cutting or anything else

Seems like a win win unless i've missed something!

oh.. and plug the battery back in I guess -_-

[but definately do not do wiring work with the battery plugged in or you risk popping the side airbag... All airbag wiring should be wrapped in yellow tape/plastic and have yellow connectors]

I say you invite a friend or two over, get some pizza and beer.. have fun - really shouldn't take all that long!
