Passeger-Side Sensor on Dash

While I was vinylexing my dash yesterday, I noticed there was some type of round sensor on the passenger side of the dash. It was toward the windshield and about 8 inches off from the side of the car.

Has anyone else noticed this, and if so, any idea what the functionality of this sensor-type thing is? Thanks.

i believe that's the sensor that differentiates between which side is hotter, passenger or driver's side, so the AC can compensate and cool the hotter side....

Cool, so its purely taking internal measures and has nothing to do with outside conditions? Just curious as to why they put it all the way against the windshield. I guess for aesthetic purposes only?/!

its actually a SOLAR sensor. helps detect SUN, and takes input from NAVI on sun position and throws cooler air on appropriate side
