Painted Pinstripe Removal???

Hey guys/gals. I recently purchased an 07 TLS with dealer installed pinstriping which the salesman said was just put on.

I have removed pinstripes before, on my wifes G35 but they werent painted on and it was a hot summer day so they came off like nothing.

Im 100% sure my pinstripes are painted on, the guy even signed the car with his little signature emblem ugh... My question is can i peel these off as well or do they not come off as easy as the sticker kind.

if its painted, look for removal videos on youtube, i believe you use 409 oven cleaner and a rotory buffeing tool or something like that.

What is this, 1994? Who the hell pin-stripes a car nowadays? That would have been a deal breaker for me. Ask the dealer to have them removed.

bring it back to the dealer and ask them to remove them. My 06 tsx has painted on pinstripes which I like-just my opinion. The top stripe is black and the bottom is a very light gray-goes terrific with my red tsx with ebony int.

The dealer is so far from my house lol. I dont even think they would do it anyway. Maybe at the time of purchase but not now. I dont mind pinstripes im sure yours looks good but i dont like the color he chose. its almost like a lavander it looks gray sometimes but is really purpley lol

I am in the same situation. Needed a car in May and found a great deal on a low mileage 07 TLS. Has the painted on pinstripes too....took it to a body shop and they said that since they had clear coat over it, any removal via wet sanding would then require touch up painting, and who knows how that will come out. I was thinking about getting some quotes on getting the car completley repainted. It is an 07 and black, so it has the usualy swirl marks and a paint job would be nice. If that is crazy expensive I was thinking of having the stripes painted over, a very dark gray, like the color of the wheels to make it blend in more.

i kind of lucked out, i had pin stripes and then my car was severely vandalized and since they are repainting it, i told them to leave them off.

One day me and the wife stopped by a honda dealer so she could look at some cars, while walking around, there was this guy with rolls of that pin stripe sticker crap putting it on all the vehicles that did not have pin stripes, took him less than 5 minutes to do one car.

Takes 5 minutes with $3 worth of materials, but they probably tack on $100+... lol

Ditto, I work at a dealer and have done this myself. If you use a decent solvent just keep working it in in a circle motion and it'll come right off. Then just re-wax the treated pinstripe and you should be in good shape.

Mike, welcome to Acurazine. I hope you get your pinstripes taken care of to your satisfaction.

In the lower right hand corner of each post, the middle icon is a multi-quote button. It allows you to answer more than one person in a single reply. Give it a try!

Cheers!

you can actually use something called a pin stripe eraser and any multi-speed drill. Theres a bunch of youtube videos on using them it takes about 20 min to completely remove them off both sides of the car. The link below is a example of the eraser you can also pick them up from most auto parts stores.

As just a money maker for the dealeship, our '08 knock-around car had painted strips that was a $250 addition, but to close the deal, they removed the stripes with solvent quickly and we were both happy.

Do not use any abrasive wheel as you'll never remove the stripe without destroying the clear.

did not pay additional for the pinstripes. I personally asked for them after I purchased the car. I am not a fan of decal pinstripes but I do like my painted on ones

Mikey- that looks like it will work well for you. Mine have clear over them so i think doing that would result in a bit of an uneven surface. I am interested to see how this works out for you.

A good detailer should be able to remove it also(if you want to go that route). I know I've seen people having it done at Big A in Whitestone.
