So, my first week of owning the TL....

Big ass piece of mud bounced off the F** truck & hit my hood, scratched it down to the metal about an inch long. Do you think I have to repaint the whole hood or fix just the spot that was damage? Anybody has this done with their car? How much should I be looking to spend.

if you want it to look perfect its going to have to be repainted...i know it sucks, but thats the way it is...if not, you could either try to touch it up your self, or have a body shop see if they will do it...if you try to touch it up yourself, you will need a few coats followed up with some sanding and some clear coat and some more sanding...i have seen this employed a few times and looks good...

depending on the location and how well you do touch up paint....its possible to make things appear better- at least for now.
Its pretty tough to match a small spot when doing actual spray paint and requires painting at least the hood and sometimes into the fenders to get a good blend. 500 plus as a guess

home repair kits with putty-sandpaper-primer- 10-25$ at parts stores
touchup paint pen- $10-12 at dealer

I'll post pic when I get home , The color is WDP... I have a feeling this color would be tough to match.

Oh man - you're so screwed. Now you're gonna have to go out and buy a new CF hood because I heard that our hood will actually fly off at high speeds if it's repainted.....

(By the way.. think you could get a closer pic...lol - I can almost see my house from there)

I have the paint touchup from Paintscratch.com . Its 3 part and you won't make it perfect. But if your careful and lay in the base white so its below the scratch level then layer the mid layer which is a whiteish pearl to just below surface level then the top clear and wet sand and polish it will be a lot better than what yo uhave now.

I took the car to the Stealership, and they quoted me near $1000.00 for repainting Hood and two fenders.

So, I went with 14.99 touch-up paint. for now..lol

Hi Paul,

Those are tiny scratches, use the touch paint a few times, let it dry between coats, like suggested above some wet sanding, or just a good buff will make those scratches almost invisible. For any body shop this is a quick and a cheap fix. Repainting the hood and fenders for that is a bit extreme, my opinion of course.

Good Luck.

Make sure you take your time; personally I would have it professionally touched up, if you want the best results. I noticed with my Premium White Pearl (PWP) TSX and others have also noticed that the Acura touch up pen is garbage; it’s hard to get the color matched with the pearl, and ends up looking more yellowish. However I experienced great results with my touch up pen for my NBP MDX.
