To be Owner, got questions before buying !

Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum and want to thank everyone in advance for any information !

I will soon to be a new TL owner ... can't wait !!

I am 100% set that is the car I want and need

I am most likely buying a 2005 with dynamic package.

I know this probably got asked over and over but I have some basic questions

1) What are the do and don't for the TL

2) What should I avoid

3) Trouble areas

4) What tranny is best 6 speed manual or automatic ... (i saw a couple issues with the tranny on the forum, want to make sure I am doing the right choice)

5) things i should know/check before buying

( I was not sure where to post this ..hope I got it right ! )

Thanks !

I wish I could lol but the best I can afford is an 05 dynamic package... Is there anything wrong with that one?

Can you guys help me make a smart choice regarding that one ?
Is the dynamic much better than the normal package ?

Speedyp...on the 4th line of your post, you said you're buying a 2005. Is that correct or are you looking at a new TL? Is a new car an option for you?

Right place.
You wrote "new TL owner" and confused a couple of people, but the rest of us also saw your reference to an '05 TL.

Since you mention the "dynamic package," you must be in Canada.

See https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=176887 for similar questions and hints (I and others posted there on similar questions).

The 6M 3d gear issue is easily addressed, so the tranny choice should be based on your preferences.
Get a Navigation-equipped TL, too, b/c many who don't later miss it.

Check out the TL like you would any other used car.

Welcome to AZ, and good luck!

I've got two; mine's an '04 manual and my wife's is an '05 automatic and both have Nav. Both are fine machines and a joy to drive. Since I am a gearhead and an enthusiast, the manual is a much better choice. It fits the car and its personality very well and helps complete the move into the Performance Sedan catagory. Plus it is quicker and gets Brembo front brakes, a beefier suspension, and LSD.

Neither of my TL's has had any problems of any kind. I have never experienced the infamous 3rd gear issue with my manual and the '05 automatic is excellent. If you can afford it, have a knowledgeable machanic check out your intended purchase before you buy it for your own peace of mind.

Sorry for the confusion everyone , by new tl owner i meant ... 1st time tl owner.

Is this 3rd issue covered under the powertrain waranty ? can I get a link that explains this issue ?

I do live in canada and unfortunataly they don't make the dynamic package with the navi in 2005... I can have one or the other and I rather have the performance of the dynamic package.

I test drove an automatic 05 yesterday and the iddle was dropping and there was some vibration at idle. The salesman told me this was caused by 87 octane gaz. I am not sure I beleive him... Anyone know about this ?

I don't believe him either. Tell him to run the gas out and refill with 91 .. see if it goes away.

Is the car at an Acura dealer?

Is it certified? All records available? No accidents?

It is at an acura dealer. and the car will be certified yes. I told him to inspect the car and call me with all that will and needs to be done. Hope to hear back today.

The salesman did not know much and I had him confused on multiple questions I was asking !

And why are you guys so inclined for the new tl-s instead of an 05 ?

No, easy for us to spend your money by telling you to get the most expensive version possible. I'd vote for you getting a Ferrari 430.

The TL-S has more horsepower, too, which is the main reason we tend to favor the TL-S over the plain TL. Also, the TL-S has a firmer suspension than the regular TL.

By the way, the 6M '05 TL will have a larger rear anti-sway bar and Brembo brakes compared to the 5A, if that makes a difference to you. If you can get a 6M with the Nav, that might be better than a 5A with a dynamic package.

The following thread is a solution to the 3d gear issue for those that had it: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=161846 .

Oh, and always use 91/93 premium!
G/L!

I have the o4 Dynamic TL. It's a great car--but as everyone else says.. get the TL-S if you can. I drove one and it makes that much more of a difference! =o

Uhm.. Unfortunetely for us Canadians, I believe, the navi wasn't introduced with a 6spd until like o7 or something...
If you get the Dynamic package vs the Navi, then fix the 3rd gear issue with the GM tranny fluid everyone is telling you to do.. for us Canadians it is ... I forget. But I posted a picture or two of it somewhere.
Can't really tell you the 'dos' and 'don'ts' as it's sort of personal preference. Well--just don't Rice out the TL =]
You are in Ontario--so try using Sunoco.. or Shell. Then use Petro Canada[they have 94 octane]... Esso sadly has 91 =[

Dynamic package is one of two packages sold in Canada for o4 and o5.. maybe o6 too.
It has an LSD, Brembos.. 6speed.. and maybe a larger rsb.
The other package sold was the Navi... I believe it's a base TL with just a Navigation system.

Oh yeah. The Navi package is AT. So it's one or the other... Navi does not have 6spd. Dynamic does not have AT.
edit: Actually--I'm not sure if the Dynamic also had an AT available.

.... Have to wait around 10 days before getting it. Don't know if I can wait that long lol.

Congrats! Now... would you be interested in meeting up with like 40 other Accord, TSX and TL owners in Canada to go on a cruise around the Niagra? =] Hahah.
Got the wing? I'm assuming it's not the lip spoiler.
If you have any other questions ask some of us =p There are quite a number of Canadian 3G TL owners at azine.

Nah there isn't any meet in Montreal/Ottawa that I know of yet... but we can arrange one. There's a thread about the Niagra drive in the off topic section. You should check it out.
