there is nothing wrong with living at home, as long as you have your priorities in check. (save as much $$$ as possible). I lived with my parents until I was 29. but then.....
I Got married....
I overpaid for a (1,250 s.f.) 2 bedroom colonial Home in Bergen County, NJ....
Bought a 2004 TL (paid it off)....
Bought a 2005 Xterra (paid it off)....
and as we speak right now, there is a big hole in my back yard while my 2,100 s.f. addition is in the process of getting built.
BTW, I am a licensed Architect, and my wife is a licensed Urban Planner.
but we were both savers while we lived with our parents before we got married.

Good/great job> Own a California house that needs work > small kids who are paying for their own college education> Acura TL
Don't tell my kids... Sorry, I had to follow up on Hugh.

This is a very interesting thread. Sure it's more a Ramblings thread, but it's interesting to read about where people are coming from with this issue.
I left home at 18 for college and have never come home to live again. I had no choice--college was in America and parents were living in Germany. If I had to, I would repeat the experience (both positive and negative, with all the screwups I made) as it made me the independent person I am today. I depend on no one else for money or living arrangements, have owned my own practice for eight years, and I've owned two houses in the time I've been away from home. I will train my son so he hopefully turns out the same way--out of the house and independent at 18, or when he graduates college, should he choose to go to school locally.
I understand not everyone can fend for themselves at 18 but in this country it used to be that you were an adult at 17-18. Over the last 15 years, we have stretched adolescence to the mid-20's with college, and the trend to spend five years there instead of four. I think that's too bad, but that's just my opinion.
As far as owning a nice car like the TL and living with Mom and Dad, well to me it smacks of incorrect priorities to me except in certain situations (cultural, sick parents you're caring for, just starting out and trying to save money for house). Not trying to offend, just my
With that said, please move this along to THIS THREAD in Ramblings.
