Cool overheating symptoms what is most common?

My 2005 TL Aspec started to show overheating signs , first I smelled that classic AF smell , then my gauge started to fluctuate between the middle and 3 quarters , and also the radiator fan would stay on after I turn off the engine most times , I've noticed that the gauge goes up when giving gas and going and comes down to the middle when standing by, any ideas as to what to shoot first , thermostat? water pump? radiator? I can't see ant leak signs
thanks in advance!!

If you see no signs of leaks....then maybe it isn't external. I mean, I had a small leak due to a cracked overflow tank cap...I could smell the AF for sure, but never had enough loss to cause temp issues...so you are most likely down a decent amount of coolant.

1.) Check your oil
2.) Check the exhaust smell
3.) Pressure test the cooling system

check radiator and overflow tank for coolant levels, refill as needed. Make sure you turn on the heat and get the air out of the heater core, you may need to top up the coolant. Once you do that, you'll need to check for leaks in the cooling system.
