Outside Temperature Flatlined

A weird thing happened today. The temperature in NY was over 100 degrees. I checked my outside temp on the MID and saw it hit 109, and then instead of going to 110 it flatlined, showing only 3 dashes. As the temperature went down, the digits reappeared. Has anyone else had this happen?

On my '04 manual TL, it will read to 115 and anything above that results in '---' until the temps come back down which surround the sensor.

Contrary to some opinion here, "---" actually means "it's so hot the specific temperature doesn't matter anymore."

A small, but crucial, technical difference.

I had the same issue today. I usually notice it when I idle too long on a hot day.

How's your car run with 170,000?

Same as my other did with 30k miles. Just took a 1600 mile trip and average 34mpg on the way up, and 32 on the way back (drove about 5mph faster back).

lol its funny to see these temps. im in Clearwater Beach Florida and we barely see over 91 or 92. usually upper 80's for the highs all summer long.

oh and some useless trivia ..... it has never been 100 degrees in Tampa FL since they started recording temperatures.

Crazy talk! I had to do the conversion to KM as I'm nearly at 196000KM (about 121700 miles), and I was concerned about putting high mileage on the car, but your's takes the cake.
