OK you 6MT people......

When you are "running the gears" Do you hit the VSA button? On dry, clean roads of course. Sometimes I wonder who is better - me or the TL? At controlling its power to the pavement.....

Also care to share your launch technique???

I turn it off. I find the car is MUCH faster, and the delay between gears is MUCH quicker, with the fun condom OFF!

The only time I have turned it off was in the snow, as the car had problems moving with it on.
I dont drag race, but if I was going to, I would turn it off.

Actualy, I would rather it be off all the time, I have no use for it.

Turning the VSA off adds at least 15 whp.

However, the car shifts the same with it on or off. VSA can cut engine power or apply the brakes, it does not control the shifter or the clutch.

I usually leave it on, since its a pain to turn it off every time I start the car and it isn't ridiculously intrusive. I've only managed to light it up 2 or 3 times and once was on an uphill start in the rain.

I shut mine off all the time, even on the Ody my wife does it unless it rains (she feels secure) but I want total control of the car...and I like the little triangle on the dash makes my dash looks so "especial"...

Always off...i hate the hesitation between gears when I am lighting it up when I have VSA on. The chirping out of this car is great too!

I thought it always has to be on or car will slip out of control or something.
Excellent!

Turning off the VSA adds no extra horsepower or torque to the engine. It can't.. such things are a factor of the engine and ECU's state of tune. What it does do is keep the VSA from anticipating a "situation" or "condition" and thereby interferring with your operation of the vehicle.

If you turn the VSA off, you can come out of the hole harder (this means launching from a standing start, people), regulate wheel spin with clutch (if you have one) and throttle, and shift rather agressively. Bottom line is with it off, the car will definitely launch and accelerate harder. With a manual and just speed shifting, you will be able to get rubber in the first three gears.

Thumbs up

OK, How about your launch technique? Like do you start in 2nd gear? Or rev. up to around 3500rpm and feather the clutch in 1st gear? Whats you big secret?

I now have 3500 miles on my 06 MT and If I try to "bang" third gear real hard it will still slip!! First and 2nd will chirp and has lots of power (with VSA OFF), no problems with those 2 gears but its like 3rd gear cant keep the weels spinning and then motor starts reving real high but not the wheels (thats not good!!). Damn cheap acura clutch

I've always left it on because I figured for dry weather, "regular old" driving it would not make a any difference since I don't usually push the car to any slip.

But just for fun I started turning it off. Now I think I have gone crazy because it seems like getting the car rolling in 1st gear is easier. I don't mean hole shots, I mean regular, normal, nothing special starts seam easier.

Am I crazy ? Is it all in my head? I never would have thought that VSA would do anything at all in that situation. Anyway, I've never seen the VSA light blink (except in snow) either when I start in 1st. To me the TL has been a tough car to get used to for engaging 1st. Am I nuts ?

thats nice that you think this, but when i'm driving with the VSA on, and flooring it, between gears it sometimes will delay the power when i get into the next gear, to prevent any type of tire slipping. It definitely does this because i drive with the VSA on and off a lot, and know this for a fact.

By speed shifting do you mean not letting your foot of the gas when shifting, or just shifting as fast as you can and still letting off the gas? I'd be afraid to take my engine to the redline, push the clutch in, shift gears, and not back off the gas slightly. If I wasn't fast enough, or the shifter hung up somehow, I'd worry about the engine blowing up. I know the rev limiter should prevent this from happening, but I just don't like to abuse my car.

Hey there JetJock.. how's it going?

Speed shifting is just normal shifting, only it's done VERY fast. What you're talking about in the first part of your first sentence is "power shifting". When power shifting, you shift VERY quickly, using the clutch, and keeping your foot floored the entire time. Speed shifting is what you descibed in the second part of your first sentence.

As for taking the engine to redline between shifts, this is not always desirable in drag racing. What you want to do is take the RPMs to the point at which when you shift to the next higher gear, your engine will be at or just beyond its peak torque curve and still building its horsepower curve.

Hope this answers your questions.
