Oil Changing Paranoia?

It seems that most people don't go by the MID but instead go by the trusty 3500 miles. Is there any actual danger to going by the MID, or are people just not ready to trust a machine to tell when it needs to be maintained. Obviously the more frequently you change the oil the longer your car will last, but at what point are you making no more of a difference between an extra 4-5k miles the car will last? I'm just curious. Honda/Acura did work pretty hard on the MID and did test the car. But then again, do they want you to have your car for 200k miles instead of buying a new one from them?

I used to change oil at around 3k. However, I have followed my MID completely, it's 19.5k with 4 oil changes so far.

IMO, I don't know what Honda/Acura thinks about this system. Perhaps, the improved oil formula, the new engine materials, and continuing road testing results provide the adequate info and significant proof they believe this system would work well on 3GTL.

Maybe, as long as you're driving your car frequently, and not driving it under teh tough conditions days and nights, I guess the oil should be able to supply the enough engine protection to its need during MID's interval.
