Official News: 2008 TL Body Style

I was at my local dealer (Houston, TX) today, checking out pricing on the 2007 Type-S. I asked the salesman if the 2008 TL body style would change. The general manager was in the room as well. Both said no, there is no difference in body styles. The saleman then opened his drawer and showed me a mini 2008 TL brochure (just a front and back card about 6" tall) with a black TL on it. Sure enough, it looks exactly like the 2007 TL.

I asked them what the differences are. They could not answer that question at the time.

Ah, in my astonishment that the 2008 TL body style did not change, I forgot to ask them any more quesitons about anything concerning a 2008 TL/TL-S.

I didn't know there was supposed to be a change. Why would there with the new 09's coming out later next year. For now, expect more of the same.

The 4G change is for the 2009 Model Year. Some of those cars might appear in showrooms sometime in 2008. I think that's why we start to think that the 2008s will have the changes -- because we're thinking the change will be in 2008.

Just curious -- ANY noticeable differences? Different colors? Wheels? Missing features?

why would there be a change for 2008? I don't think Acura would make a Type S production for 1 year. Acura usually follows the 5 year format for every generation. So if 2008 was a new TL model then that would only be 4 yrs for the 3rd gen TL.

Actually your thread confirms what many already knew and it helps buyers of the 2007 TLS determine whether to wait for the 2008. Since I am in the market, i plan to buy the 08 if they are available by mid-july, if not i will buy an 2007 TLS since there is no changes and i can get a good price on it.

I highly doubt it will be mid july, since production of the 08s are starting around mid to late July, they will be rolling into dealers around late sept to early oct. Price for the 08 will be pretty firm from the dealers, since they are selling 07 type s pretty low compared to msrp. I am holding out on a 08 also, four more months basically...

In that case, the 2007 TLS should be a good deal then....

Hey, if it is not too much trouble, could you scan in that mini brochure and post it??

Thanks!

even if the new style comes out in late 08 for the 09 model, I wouldn't buy a first year car with such a dramatic redesign that we are all expecting, always bugs and more bugs...

The only bugs I care about are the ones that get caught on my windshield and grille. The rest are covered by warranty...

In fact, the only reason I see to wait a year or two after a model change is for what they may hear the customers complain they wish they had, or new ideas they think of adding, like the rear camera and text for the music files on the display for 07 TL! 07 TL also got the traffic feed for XM I think and the Acuralink capability which links the HFL with your service dept. (think I said that right)

At any rate, if you say you are gonna wait one or two years for bugs or updates, you may still guess wrong. 04 new model year...I waited until 06...I STILL missed out on all of those things I mentioned! So keep that in mind!

You guys are truly jumping to conclusions on this... With the success Acura has/is experiencing with the 3GTL, I wouldn't be suprised if they didn't keep this body style into MY10/MY11...

They've don it before...

There is always a better one coming out in the near future, so just like the song says, it's not get what you want, but want what you got ... so instead of waiting for the updated type-s coming in a year and half, I grab one and loving it and enjoying it RIGHT NOW ... LOL

Or "Keep what you got...til you get what you need ya'll!!"

"Chuck Brown - Bustin' Loose"

In other words...I plan on keeping my ride despite the minimal improvements that Acura makes in the near 4G. I will not be making a move until MY10 or MY11!!

I would agree that the TL is a sales success and is probably the bread and butter but check the numbers. Sales are seriously down compared to MY 05 and even 06.

The 09 TL will have AWD. That was a quote from a dealer I went to recently when I was in for service. He didn't see much change to the 08 from the 07. No pictures, just his words. Grain of salt.

It's pretty well known that model year 09 will be an all new TL, due out Fall of 08. Most Acuras are on about a 4 year schedule. Much more than this is not the norm.

well... like all the other "future" model threads. nobody really knows anything...

they told me the 07 wouldnt be different... and look... type s, better fogs, DRL's, MP3, Nav w/ traffic....

just like they said no difference for 06, and we got TPMS. there will probably be a couple new things. same body style though for sure.

I don't have a copy of the 2008 mini brochure. The one I was looking at was my salesman's personal copy. It had a picture of a NBP TL in motion in the daylight.

Do you recall if the 2008 TLS on the brochure had different wheels from the 07?

IMO it doesn't matter what the new TL will look like. 3rd Gen TL looks too good. the only thing that Acura can do now is to make the TL look ugly. cars go through their prime then a new desinger comes along and messes everything up. i.e. honda accord, g35 > g37, Evo, Sti, Galant, acura legend. the best ACura could do is keep the 3rd gen TL's looks , while adding aggressive features to make it look sporty, just like the type S. maybe even adding more hp or AWD. 3rd Gen TL is a keeper.

I was thinking the same thing... and with the concepts that Acura was showing a few months ago...ie..Advanced Sport Sedan thingy.... I am so worried that the 4G TL is not going to look as nice as the 3G! I mean, look at the simple clean lines of the MDX and then look at the new 2007 MDX!! Talk about over styled and FAT ....it looks so bloated and that grill....also the body lines just dont work out...especially the rear quarter window... what a blow to rearward visibility! And what is with the headlights and the droppy triangle at the ends??? Then the tailights with the naked LEDS??? And the BEAKY front nose??? and did i mention the grill?? Sorry for the MDX rant BUT, the interior is nice!!

The 3G TL looks sleek, sexy and all the lines flow perfectly, it is just a sexy precise looking machine!! IT's gonna be a classic design!

My next TL will be an 08. I got the first MY of the 3rd Gen, maybe I'll get the first MY of the 4th Gen.

I need pics and information.

Since the car was in motion, the wheels were all spinning. The angle was 3/4 view. But if I remember correctly, the spinning wheels were light colored, which makes me think that it was a normal TL. It was only one picture! Next time I go to the dealership, I'll be sure to look at it more carefully.
