OEM Touch-up Paint...Advise needed plz!

So I purchased the oem touch up paint today from Acura of Lynnwood for my nbp, and I was hoping to get some advise. Aside from following the directions, is there anything specific I should know before I tackle this? You should SEE MY CAR, ROCK CHIPS GALORE...it's pretty bad. The guy that sold it to me said that the freaking clearcoat was all inside the damn little tube...but on the directions it says that I should apply the clearcoat 24 hours after painting...am I missing something? He probably just lied eh? Clearcoat even needed?

Thanks,
Eric

Honestly if your front end has that many chips in it, like it's been sandblasted, then the touch-up paint probably won't do. It'll probably look like crap anyway.

You might just want to look into having a body shop repaint the front end a bit and fade the paint into the original. Then maybe look into a clearbra. (I don't trust most repaints) or just rely on their "lifetime warranty". I know this is a pricey option but it should be under $1000 for everything, it'll make your car look like brand new for years to come.

Yeah be careful with the repaint though, because you would want to apply the clear bra right after the repaint and sometimes that nos possible because the paint might be too soft and can't be applied for atleast a month. This is wha I was told by a reputable installter so now after getting repainted my front end looks like it has a million dots all over it which sucks!!

check the wash and wax section in Off Topic for help
Its easy to do- prep area with rubbing alcohol- use thin coats of paint
there is more to it than just dabbing paint on

if you have full coverage insurance u can claim it under a comprehensive claim as road or sand damage (unless u have a crappy company) and it dosent make ur insurance go up. I'm getting a whole new paint job this month and it didnt cost a dollar. 0$ deductable. New windows and headlights as well. U should check into it before u go crazy with some touch up paint. Take that from me,an automotive painter.

Prep the paint with alcohol to remove dirt and wax etc. Don't use the brush included with the paint, it is too big and lacks control. Shake paint well, then put a little bit of the paint in a small cup or on a paper plate. Then get a book of cheap matches and rip out a match (must be cardboard matches, not wood) . Use the back end (ripped side) of the match and dip it in the paint very slightly so that you only have a small amount on the match and not a big drip hanging off. Apply so that it sits in the chip and doesn't stick out too much re-apply as needed after dry. Hope this helps...

single stage is paint that dosent require clear coat because it naturally has its own shine. And base coat clear coat is what most of us have and WDP is 2 stage. Base coat top coat clear coat

there is an excellent DIY on chip repair.
If you have never done it before, ask a girl to come look at it and show you how to paint it.
Just like her fingernails- thin coats to build layers...maybe she will even do it for you~

Then- unlike what she does, you sand down the paint that is above level and buff the area together to match. Its not quick, but if your time is available and pro shop repair is not in the plan$....
