OEM Tail Light Fitment

Hi AcuraZine,

I installed Type-S (OEM) taillights with my friend yesterday. While the driver's side fit perfectly, I have some serious concerns about the passenger's side. Ultimately I was not able to get them to fit properly. There is a noticeable gap on the side of the light.

The main concerns I have are condensation build-up and cracking.

I really don't want to end up shelling out more money to take the car to a body shop and have them modify the panels to fit. Is there anything I can do?

I bought the lights from AckTL05, but I got them three months ago.

Are you the original owner of that car or the 2nd owner?

If you are the 2nd owner than that car might have already had some body work done to it, that's why it won't line up properly.

Honestly I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's not that severe and not that noticeable. The only reason you think it looks so noticeable is because you're the car owner, and car owners are always very anal about their car and nit-pick every detail..

Take a picture of how it looks with the bumper reinstalled.

Fourth owner. No body damage reported to Carfax; nothing visible in the bumper area.

I'm worried not about it being noticeable but instead about it causing damage.

It shouldn't cause any damage to the tails.. It won't condense because of that gap. The tail lights are a sealed unit so it doesn't matter if there's a gap or not.

Also just because carfax doesn't report a accident it doesn't mean it's never been in a accident before. Plenty of cars get into minor fender benders and never report it so it never appears on carfax or autocheck. So If I were you, being a 4th owner of that car I wouldn't trust carfax too much.

They jutted out a bit, but not as much as these. Furthermore, the taillight on the passenger's side that came with the car cracked along the edge (which was my main motivation for replacing them in the first place).

Sounds to me like something was wrong to begin with.

Reviving a dead thread since I don't want people to think this fitment is normal. The problem was that my quarter panel had been crushed in. After some work at a body shop, it's back to how it came from the factory, and my light fits perfectly.
