Nooooo.....damn this headliner!

I KNEW I shouldn't have spent too much time here. In the last week, I've started hearing a thumpa-thumpa-thump even over my music. It localizes to the headliner behind the moonroof, like so many others. I don't see a droop, but feeling the headliner behind the moonroof reveals that it is not securely attached.

I think what happened was.....Cleveland. I picked up my car in October, and during the cold weather, I was simply not likely to have adhesive issues with the headliner. It's actually been warm here, and I've had the moonroof open a lot, and........here I am.

I NEVER thought it would happen to me, the TL "pollyanna". Oh, well. I'm due in two weeks for a seat memory module replacement anyway, so I'll get it fixed then. Life goes on.

Yep, mine dropped down last week also....I thought I had avoided that bug. Oh well, 5 hours in the shop yesterday and a glob of epoxy and they say all will be well. I didn't tell them that I think my son pulled down on it while sticking his head out of the sunroof!

How can a 35k car have a defect like a falling headliner? I don't even know what that is. So the soft covering on the roof falls down? I hope your cars are leased, after 2-3 years of driving, you'll be sitting on the headliner.

It's hardly that bad. They are held up with double sided tape. My center piece of "tape" had lost its adhesion. The center of the headliner drooped about an inch in the middle. I know lots of people cry about this like its worse than a bullet through the head, but who gives a shit? As an engineer, I understand that they use what they think is the best solution to attach headliner to the roof of the car. After they get reports back from the first 50,000 cars made in the first year of production and find out that .04% of the cars have falling headliners they will problaby change the compound a little for the next year. Big deal, suck it up!

Unless they have changed the type of adhesive to be used and gave the new compound to the dealers, you might as well fix it yourself. Mine has been "fixed" 3 times now and it's still drooping after a day parked in the sun.

Its a small problem, every car has them. If the car had electrical and mechanical problems (cough, BMW) then that question would be justified.

Let me ask you guys a question. Do you guys open your sun roof all the way often? I don't have this problem (yet) and I rarely open it (except using the tilt function). The reason why I am asking you all is that I just found out that the plastic handle on could push up the headliner if you open the sun roof all the way back. Could this be one of the reasons why?

Could be.

Some ppl here do realize this headline issue after opening it. I think the wind blow just makes it worse.

The 2003 Accord has the headliner problems too. My 2003 Accord coupe's headliner had the rattle. It was really annoying.

My headliner dropped last week. I decided to purchase Duralock velcro fasteners, similiar to the oem fasteners. I replaced the passenger side mount and the middle mount. However, I also cut two additional pieces and placed them in between the original factory locations thus making five contact points. I let the new contact adhere for twentyfour hours and then stuck the headliner. No problems. Iam sure that the factory probably did not let the adhesive cure before attaching the headliner which makes these contact points weak. Hope this helps

If there's an official solution pending, then I'll wait for it. Thanks for the info.

If mine comes down, I'll just fix it myself. I'm sure Radio Shack (ADhesive pads and velcro pads) has something I can use and if not, I work for a company that makes adhesives so a trip to the RD lab should provide a solution.

I was going to fix it myself, but my car so desperately needed a wash and i didn't wan't to do it. Besides, I felt that the only way Acura would know about the problem is if I brought it in so it would be reported as a warantee issue.

3 months, and mine has fallen as well. if i had to guess, it had to do with the sunroof being opened. it seems rather silly. when the sunroof is open, a lot of wind seems to put a lot of pressure on the headliner, which then seems to want to droop down

i wonder if one of those wind deflector things would help? personally i think they're ugly though
