Nokia 6820 Bluetooth phone
Nokia 6820 Bluetooth phone
I just received my Nokia 6820. It seems to work good with the Handsfreelink. The MID only shows the antenna symbol, no bars. and the battery meter is not displayed either. Has anyone else tried a 6820 and got the full displays.
Please don't tell me this!
I just Nokia a nasty gram today requesting them to send me a 6820 since I've been a faithful Nokia customer for over 10 years now and I've recently had to dicth my 6200 for the T616 to use with my TL. I've always had a Nokia from the 232 on. That's the one thing I don't like Nokia for, they are way off the Bluetooth wagon and need to get on board! That will suck if it doesn't display everything, my shi*ty T616 shows everything including the Roam indicator! Maybe you don't have something right, but I doubt it, pairing a phone is pretty straightforward.
How much and where did you get your 6820? The cheapest I've found is eBay for $300 plus shipping.

I posted this info in the bluetooth sticky a while back. It seems like nokia is not too concerned with aftermarket attachments to their products. The rep I spoke to said the phone functions correctly and all the info is sent to nokia accessories so they couldn't help me further. Its an excellent phone otherwise. There are no echo problems from the 6820, you might get some bluetooth crackle but thats about it. Also keyguard prevents the 6820 from linking up with the car so make sure its off.

Here's a reply from Nokia:
We appreciate your inquiry regarding why you are not able to pair your Nokia 6820 camera phone with a Bluetooth wireless car kit. The phone was designed to be compatible with the Bluetooth wireless standard 1.1. Having said that, it should work with any device that is compatible with that specification. The most likely cause then of this problem is that the car kit may not be configured to query this information from the phone because it is a new phone. We recommend that you contact Acura directly to see if they have any resolution for this issue. You may also want to contact one of our Technical Support Representatives directly so that they can troubleshoot with you while you are on the phone. One of our Technical Support Representatives will be more than happy to assist you.
We are open 7 days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. EST (excluding Holidays). Our toll free number is
1-888-NOKIA-2U (1-888-665-4228).
The 6820 is paired. I called Acura and spoke to someone from Johnson Controls (they designed Handsfreelink for Acura), and they took my information. Johnson Control Rep told me that he is going to have one of their Technicians call me next week. I'm hoping to set up a conference call with Johnson Control's Tech and Nokia's Tech and see if we could troubleshoot the display issues. Hopefully we make progress. I'll keep everyone informed.

Me four... I have a 6820 already and am waiting for delivery of my TL in the next 3 weeks.
I am glad that the phone works well with the car and that there may be a chance of getting the display to show all info from the phone.
Keep us posted! Good luck with the techs next week!

I have read through the bluetooth thread including the posts that were lost when the server went down. I am not positive but it is my impression that only the S/E phones show battery and signal strength. I seem to recall that the Motorola V600, the Siemens S56 (I think), the Nokia 3600 (again I may have the number wrong) and the 6820 do not show signal or battery strength. I don't recall seeing anything on the other phones that Acura says will work with the TL.
This is one of the reasons I decided to buy the S/E T616 notwithstanding some reall complaints about reception. So far it is working well with the TL. There is no static or crackling. The sound in the car is excellent. The recipient of a call is able to hear me clearly but there is a slight hiss behind my voice and sometimes I have to speak up to be heard clearly.
I will be taking the car out of the downtown Toronto area today into the country and I will get some idea how poor the reception really is.

There is a thread similar to this on another board. The Nokia's do not transmit the information like other manufacturers do. The Motorola V600 does transmit the information like the Sony Ericsson phones. From what I have gathered, Nokia is the one at fault not Acura.
I am currently using a 6820 and am not impressed in the least with it. The screen is subpar to todays standards and mine at least is filled with all types of software bugs. The big feature of the phone that was removed here in the US ws the blackberry client feature. That would have taken the phone to a new level but unfortunately a no go on that.
my suggestion is that if you want to spwnd a few hundred on a phone, there are much better options than the Nokia.

ck37, I was able to get my 6820 here with the Blackberry client included. I guess I got an asian model.
I found a place on the net who sold me the phone for $369 and the phone works well. I have had friends install their SIM cards in to test it with their Blackberry servers. I have also tried pairing the phone with headsets with bluetooth. I also have linked it to my laptop via IR port. I haven't enabled the web service on my cell carrier so I haven't been able to test the emailing capabilities through the web. (the qwerty keyboard would make that easy to do though) I think this phone makes multi-media and connectivity easy through many methods.
I can't wait to get my TL next month (on order already) so that I can have the bluetooth HFL in my car instead of the earbud and wire that I use not.
For those considering the 6820, it's a good phone (at least for my needs) and if you want the blackberry, you might want to ask the person or shop you are buying from if it's an asian or european model since they would probably still have not removed that functionality.

It could be possible that nokia does not want certain information to go back and forth between devices. Who knows.
As for SonyEricsson T610/T616, they are fun phones and very solid after firmware upgrades.

Update
I spoke to Johnson Controls; they said that some phone Manufacturers did not program the software for the Handsfree Profile to transmit all phone display data, only the minimum so it will work. They also said that they are currently working with these Manufacturers to try to get this resolved, but it doesn't seem like they are too interested. The Rep from Johnson Controls said that it would help if consumers like us would contact these Manufacturers Headquarters and let them know that we would like these display options to work. The more requests, the better chances we will have in getting more cell phones to properly work with our Handsfreelink System.
I also spoke to Nokia Tech Support. They knew nothing about it. He said to go to www.forum.nokia.com and try searching and posting there. It's a Nokia Software Research Discussion Board.
Also, he said to call Nokia Americas Corporate Office at 1-972-894-5000, in Irving, Texas.
So, I guess our best bet is to call Johnson Controls at 1-800-822-2399 (designers of Acura's Handsfreelink System), and our cell phone Manufacturers Corporate Office, and keep pushing for a Firmware Upgrade to make all these features work with our Handsfree Profile, Bluetooth Enabled cell phones.

It's a quad band GSM phone, so it should work with any GSM Carrier Network; AT&T, Cingular, T-Mobile, etc. Do a search and look around. Authorized Dealers/ Resellers for cellular services vary in price and some offer pretty good deals. Large carriers may not offer some of these compatible phones.

Re: Update
Did they happen to give you an email address at Nokia that we could send our request too? I was about ready to buy the 6820 this week, however.. now that I know the MID doesn't fully display everything... I may look at other manufactures.
