newbie type question--sorry

do the new TL's have the same tranny probs as the 03's and earlier?

Not yet, although one person has had a failure.
If i had the auto trans, I would be sure to change the fluid every so often as preventive maintanance.

Only time will tell if they start crapping out at 100,000 miles or so.

i think only a few of the early 04's had to worry about tranny problems. i havent followed it too much but from what ive heard from talking with other people

the earlier 04 had a recall but that was fixed, as far as for tranny prob. havent heard any, but hey who am i to judge, i have a 6spd

More specifically: early-build 2004 5AT TLs up to a VIN around 14k were recalled for a 2nd gear oil kit. Otherwise, there is no known widespread problem with the 3G TL tranny. A few people are having their trannys replaced after noting a high-pitched noise, but it's unclear what that noise is and whether it actually affects tranny function. Some 6MT members have had trouble with 2nd gear.

These problems are nowhere near the potential disaster that was the 2G TL tranny.
