newb question: no auto headlights?

Just picked up my anthracite yesterday and have been too busy at work to spend any time driving it

Am I mistaken or does the TL not have the auto headlight feature that my 03 MDX does?

You're right - This is missing, as are a lot of things that are even on the TSX!

The Auto headlights missing is curious. I would bet it is only some programming, since the car has all the sensors.

I had 'em once, didn't like 'em

Maybe I'm a control freak, but on the one car I've owned that had auto headlights (a '90 Taurus SHO), I left them in manual mode. They would turn on when I didn't want them to (and dim the instruments), and other times wouldn't turn on when I thought they should.

I'm perfectly happy that the TL doesn't have them.

Mike

Partagas, what 330i were you driving....I have a two friends, one with a '02 330 and one with an '03 325 and they both have auto lights, maybe it's included with an optional package on the Bimmer.

I never did take a liking to the auto-lights in the MDX however, I do like the auto-wiper feature in the MDX. I really haven't had much time driving the TL (I walk to work) but I don't think it has the auto-wiper feature.

I know, I know... RTFM and find out but from a casual glance I didn't see an auto position on the wiper controls.

The auto feature sucks anyway they tend to come on and off way to much in situations you dont need lights for long and thats not good with HIDS. Excessive on and off usage kills the usage time and we all know how expensive the Ballast are for HID's.

I've dealt with autolights in many vehicles, and the one's in my Jeep work the best. The don't turn on unnecessarily like a lot of vehicles do. That's probably the one feature that the american's got down right, hell they ought to since american brands have had this feature around since the late 70's.

It's still a mystery to me why the US hasn't adopted mandatory DRLs like Canada. They're statistically proven to prevent accidents both day and night.

I agree with you here the Americans are king here our, 77 Coupe Deville had this feature and you could adjust the sensitivity even back then. Most cars with it now donot offer the sensitivity adjustment.

I believe those sensors are for the detecting the position of the sun for heating and cooling purposes. But yeah.. I can see what you're saying... they could just do a firmware upgrade on the computer to detect day and night and rig that to a relay or something for lights.

I bet they can even make it so the doors passively auto lock without you pressing the button on the key fob also!

must be a package. My dad had an 02 325 convertible, no auto lights... even thought he had the Premium package... weird....

DRLs

Could the fog lights be converted to DRLs?
