Newb Question - Engine Temp While Parked
Newb Question - Engine Temp While Parked
I tried searching on this, but didn't have much luck. I was showing my car to a friend today and he wanted to take a peek under the hood. I gladly did and noticed that the engine was still pretty warm/hot to the touch after being parked for about 2.5 hours. I checked the oil and coolant and everything look good. Now the engine didn't burn my hand and the coolant didn't steam when I opened the cap, but it still seemed hotter than it should be after being parked that long. Is this the way the car is/should be? Any ideas why it is still so warm? Thanks in advance
Re: Newb Question - Engine Temp While Parked
First, never open the coolant cap while the system is hot.
Second, depending on conditions (including the ambient temperature and the wind), it is not too surprising to find a car such as yours still warm to the touch after a couple of hours of inactivity. Now if you are in Nome Alaska or International Falls MN at this time of the year, that would not be true!

Thanks for the response. I did check the cap before I tried to open it. The engine wasn't burning hot, but it was definitely above warm. I guess I won't be too concerned with it unless I hear otherwise.
