New TL Owner here... let the mods begin!

hello all.... been lurking around these forums for a few months now, waiting to find the right TL and reading all the info on different mods and install advice so I'd be ready when the day finally came. Well, the day was yesterday, as I found a great TL in the CHI suburbs, made the 4 hour drive and picked her up!

Right now its just a stock 06, 6mt, Anthracite Metallic. Got what I believe to be a great deal on a certified TL with only 19K miles!!! Of the thousands of mods I have seen on here, I think I will start with the A-spec body kit, deck lip spoiler, LED interior, Type-S tails and sides, tint, then move onto 18" wheels and tires.... then once the bank account rebounds, I'll decide on more from there!

Thanks in advance for everyones input I have already read, should be a huge help once I start adding all the goods to my new toy!!!

If you don't mind sharing, how much did you pay?

Thanks guys... I was pretty happy with the find after searching for the past 5 months or so. Had a few bad experiences with non-dealer, non-certified TL's, so after that, the certified route was the only option for me. There are no dealerships within 100 miles of me here in central IL, so had to drive up to Chicago (Continental Acura in Naperville.... great guys up there btw.) Got it for 21k... with it's condition, certification and only 19k miles, I was pretty happy. There are a few other TL's in the chicago-land area that were comparable pricewise, but they all had 40k plus miles and were 2005's.

mn2trance -- do you have any pics of your ride? from your signature, it looks like you've already done alot of the mod's on the exact same car... it'd be nice to get an idea of what it'll look like when i get it all done... still trying to decide on the tint% -- they are pretty strict about that where i live....

If you click on the first part of my signature, there's a link to it from my Photobucket album. If you click on my username and view my profile, you'll see that I had added a cleared and blacked out headlights to it as well.

Thats a great lookin car... hopefully in a few months mine will look similar... did you install the body kit yourself??? With the amount of info on here, I think I am going to attempt it and see what happens.

Tint looks nice, I'm thinking the 35% is the way to go w/ the AM. Also like the cleared/blacked headlights, it is also on my list of things to do... gotta find some nice rims first... I'm figuring out that my options are limited b/c of the 6spd... oh well.

Thanks dude! No, I didn't install the kit myself. I had a friend's brother who works at an Acura dealership install it for me. I was afraid to drill anything into the car when I had first gotten it . . . until the decklid spoiler.

As for the tint, I think it's a bit too light, but with the tint laws being changed here in GA, I can't go below 32%. I would love to have 20% though. And yeah, the Brembos make it really hard to find wheels that'll clear them . . . but there are some out there!

Can't wait to see how your car will be progressing through the years.

Definitely will throw some pics up here once I get the mod project started... besides, aren't mod pictures a membership requirement!?!?!

Speaking of which... I know there are a dozen threads about deck spoilers, specifically OEM vs. Ebay (spoilerstore)... anyone care to share quick thoughts on the bolt-on vs. 3M tape installation, I'd appreciate it... I think I'm leaning toward the OEM bolt-on, just don't see the 3M being very permanant, although it is obviously the easier install.

Congrats on the new AM TL! I just got my tint done today, and I love it so far (aside from the areas that still need to dry out etc). Hopefully next weekend I'll have my A-Spec kit on

PSULou03-- looks like we're trying to get the same stuff done to our TL's in the same amount of time (ASAP baby!!!)... where did you get all your goods, and if you dont mind telling, for how much?? Obviously the march madness buy is a great deal and I think I'll get the a-spec body kit through that, but I don't know if I can get the type-s tails and sides from there. Found them on ebay for about $200, but still searching to see if there are better deals...

Good to see another rep from Big Ten country... I am a Buckeye transplanted into Illini country for my job, and cannot stand it out here -- too much orange and blue, not enough scarlett and gray!!!!

I got my TL-S tails from eBay for $169. They are aftermarket ones made by DEPO. They seem to be of good quality/fit so far as I have washed the car twice and no leaking etc, and a good match to the OEM (it is easy to compare since a co-worker of mine has a TL-S and I park 2 spaces from him..lol) I am thinking of the side markers but I am not sure yet.

I can see how it would suck to be in Illinois as a Buckeye fan. They are doing well in bball right now unlike the egg PSU laid yesterday...lol. I am always looking forward to Big Ten football season...OSU at Beaver Stadium this year...oh yeah! Tailgating should be fun for that one...

Those Depo TL-s tails are the same one's I'm looking at on ebay... theres a package deal with the smoked side markers (front and rear) for $199. I figure I may as well do it all while I've got stuff ripped apart.

... never been out to Beaver Stadium but heard it was a great atmosphere, one of the tops in Big 10... gotta try to get out that way once the job gets me back to Ohio... btw, thanks for our QB, that seems to be working out great for us

That package deal wasn't there when I bought the tails unfortunately, or I might have went with that for an extra $30.

I am pretty happy with our QB, but you do have a very good one there...just needs some more experience under pressure.
