New TL has only 15,000 mile tires

I was at my dealer Wed. getting an oil change for my '99 TL Navi and heard the tires on the new TL are only good for 15K...not good if true. I just bought a set of tires at Sam for my car, $600+. I got 71,000 miles from the first two sets...

Anybody confirm the 15k number? I did sit in one....nice...

Jeff

if it's 15k then it's for the optional performance tires. But even so i think it's something like 25k on those.....don't know for sure.

I can't imagine they are only 15k. I expect 8-12k for the summer tires.

I got more than 50k on my 99TL OEM's.

Well....if it's really 15k miles, great for me. I can buy better aftermarket tires sooner. If not....well, I may buy better aftermarket tires sooner anyway.

What are the TREADWEAR, TEMP, and TRACTIOn ratings? That should tell us what we need to know. Thanks!

According to Tire Rack, the treadwear ratings on the closest tire to ours, 235/50/17 (the actual on ours is 235/45/17) is 260 AA.

To compare, the Dunlop SP 5000 Sport tires I had on my 2002, at 215/50/17 had a rating of 360 AA. I want these EL42s to wear out fast so I can buy some decent tires.

Consumer Reports just did a report on high performance all season tires, and the Bridgestone tires did VERY well (placed 2nd and 3rd behind Falken's):

http://www.consumerreports.org/main/...=1066487051573

In general, the treadwear number seems reasonable to me, given that higher performance (ie softer) tires wear out faster. Am I correct that these are H speed rated? H rated, AA is pretty good. I'm no expert on tires, so I'll defer to others on this list that know a lot more about this than me.

I truly don't think so. I have had 200 treadwear rated high performance summer tires. Low profiles 225/40 z rate.

They almost lasted around 15k miles. I do drive very wild and I take any corner about 30 miles over the posted speed limit.

The last set I had that had a rating of 260 lasted over 20k miles. The ones I got now have a rating of 300.
