new tint!

my 04 AM TL just got some tint today.. will post up pictures of it later when I find my damn camera

one question though....

i got 13% in the back and 22% in the front. and it looks SO FRIGGIN DARK

i like i like but the question is would COPS like it so much to pull me over? one of my friends drive a white g35 with limo tint (6%) in the back and 22% in the front and got some stares from cops time to time, but i'm still a bit worried. The shop who did my tint said anything under 70% in the state of California is illegal, so basically all the tint jobs they do are illegal. DO cops actually pull you over?

can't help much since i'm from hawaii. here, they do pull you over and if they want to really be an ass, they can ticket you $285 per window that is not the legal limit of 35%.

13% is crazy dark....
I have 35% all around and there are times I thnk that's too dark (esp. at night).

I'm in LA and see cars driving around with 50% all the way down to 2% all the time. IMO as long as you're not doing anything that will draw attention to you and make the cops want to pull you over, you should be ok. I also think that if you do get stopped (hopefully you won't ), the tint is probably will be something else they'll cite you for.

Yikes! Dude.

Any shop who tints more than the CA legal limit can get fined along with you when/if you ever get stopped. Just figure that if you get stopped for anything, you'll probably get a bonus ticket for the tint. It's an expensive fix-it ticket.

Next time, do some research before tinting. Think twice, pay once.

And I bet you can hardly see out! Looks good, though. Just curious, do you drive at night, and if so, how?

Something you have to keep in mind is that the windows are 75% from the factory...any tint you apply compounds that...50% tint on the windows actually gives you about 38% light transmitance.

Isn't it a bit unsafe? How do you avoid getting ticketed by cops?

You must really like to smoke in your car, eh?
I think the best set up is 30%~ on the sides and 50% on the windshield - not too dark, not too light.

i like it.. i have an exemption for tint that allows me to tint the windshield.. considering how easy it is to get skin cancer nowadays.. this isn't such a bad idea..

I have to disagree with you there. I used to think tinting the windshield was a safety issue, but after riding in a friend's car who had 50% titanium on the windshield, I changed my mind. At least with the type of film used in my car, visibility is not affected much at all, if any, when looking out the window. All it really does is block out more sun/heat, and even out the shade of the tints on the side windows. Now, darker tints like 35% or 20% on the windshield would be stupid, however, as it is considerably darker.

The original post says he has 35% on the windshield. So he's not an idiot, just stupid?

I was just responding to cTLgo's comment, which stated that anyone who tints their windshield is an idiot. I disagreed with that generalized statement, but did agree that 35% would be too dark, thus unsafe, therefore a bit stupid.
Sorry if the synonyms confused you.

well actually i have 30 on my front windshield. You can see fine out of the whole car. i drive at night all the time and have no problem seeing out of any window. Never been harrassed by cops either. iv had darker on my past 3 cars. figured i would go lighter on this car. i like it and it is safe to drive with.

Ticketed for tint

8:30PM and pulled over in SantaMonica CA just for front side window tint (35%). Had the tint stripped, had it verified by the Highway Patrol, paid $10.00 fine and that was it. Now debating whether to have the tint put back on because it just looks so good.

Since I'm considering tint on my '04TL, and almost anything is illegal in Pennsylvania, does anyone know what happens after you get caught. Yeah...you pay the ticket of course, but do you have to remove the tint afterwards? I'd pay the fine if I got caught, but I wouldn't want to then have to remove the tint. It just wouldn't be worth the $$ if I had to remove the tint. The fine I could deal with, removing the tint...NO! Anyone from PA that has gotten caught with illegal tint, please let me know.....thanks!!

You may as well take your chances, most cops will not pull you over for tint, unless you are obviously driving blind. As for being an IDIOT for tinting your windshield, thats not fair, although it may not be the best idea in the world. The important thing is that you can still see fine. Why do they make tint illegal, vision imparement in or out(they cant see what you are doing)?

Technically no, since you have the right to request a trial over a ticket and the tint would be the evidence. You don't have to make any corrections until the court decides you are right or wrong. Granted you won't win, but you can contest the ticket.

I live very close to DB. Would you tell me where you got your tinting done and how much? Also did you get the felt installed?

Thanks.

I got my tint done at Tint Zone in Rowland Heights, the number for their shop is
626-581-9977. I recommend to call before and make an appointment, these guys are busy the whole day. The owner's name is David and hes a real nice guy.

I paid 130 for my charcoal tint, 150 for titanium there and 170 for quantum. Takes about an hour after you bring it in. And no, I didn't get that ?felt, care to explain what it is?

It's all about them seeing in...no dark tint, no mirror tint, etc. They (the gov't, the man, whitey, etc.) want to be in your business and tell you how you should do things. And remember, "...the older you do get, the more rules they're gonna try to make you follow..."

The flip side is, of course: cop pulls car, 4 thugs inside with tech 9's, cop walks up unaware, cop gets blasted...all over a burned out taillight...

As with everything, two sides to this one, too...problem is, us normal folks suffer because of the actions of a few morons...

Thanks for the info! I appreciate it. The "felt" is supposed to prevent the scratching of the tint, which is a common occurence on TLs.
