New take on Tl headlights

New take on Tl headlights
Hello all...decided to modify the headlights a bit, but I wanted to do something a bit different then just clearing them. Thanks to Casper42, I was able to find a place in Glendale that does this type of work. The place is an 11 on a 1-10 scale of shadiness, but they do good work for pretty good prices, so who am I to argue?
Since I am barely computer literate (and damn lazy), not sure how to host pics, but if one of my friendly fellow-TLrs is so inclined please host the pics (just related to the headlights) from the following link- photos.yahoo.com/ucsbchris2001
As you will see, I had the shop remove the lights, take out the amber lens, and tint that piece to a gray color (to correspond with the sidemarker and my wheels). The pics make the corners almost look black, its only because I took them in a rush in the parking lot of my office due to rain. If people are curious enough, I will take better pics in the sunshine in the next couple of days and you will see that they are more of a gray than dark black. I'm guessing some people may hate the change, and I am not 100% sure about it myself, but all in all I think it looks pretty cool.

That looks sharp!
One concern, though: In the pictures it seems that the side marker is a LOT brighter than the turn signal. On a stock TL, they are about the same brightness. Thus it seems that your mod mad the fron turn signals significantly less visible.
I would suggest a safer alternative that would achieve a similar look: Instead of tinting the amber plastic dark gray, remove it altogether and paint the then-visible reflector dark gray, and use an amber turn signal bulb. This way the amber bulb would be directly visible at its appropriate level of brightness, and when it is off, the turn signal area would still appear dark gray/black, as in the above mod.
I don't mean to criticize your mod. I think it looks really nice, just thinking of an alternative way of doing it.

you know what i think would look good.....
theres 2 pieces of the amber lens on the headlight.... one on top and one on bottom.
i think it would look good if you got the bottom piece just gray (no amber at all) and then just remove the top piece all together.

Shady in that it is just a couple of greasy brothers that have a lot of 1/2 finished cars sitting around and no name parts/rims for sale. Its just sort of dirty I guess...
I just know that if I had new of somewhere else to get this done, I probably would have left after pulling into their parking lot.

PS: Can you hookup some close up shots of your signals now that the weather has cleared up? I wanna see exactly how they did yours.
After I got mine done I was thinking that if there was a clear insert that could have gone where the amber one used to be, it would make the signal look almost stock but with no amber when not in use. Advantage there is the reflector spreads the light better.

I will PM as well, but anyone else that wants to know...This one is courtesy of Casper42, the first person to introduce the board to this place...
Rego Sport
Glendale, CA

These guys charge $150 for regular clearing...somehow they threw in an extra $30 for about $1 worth of tint spray, but I am happy with the results, so no real complaints. This place is a hole in the wall (one that I would usually avoid), so I bet you could bargain with these guys if you are so inclined. Harry is the one to deal with.
The work is good, the workers are shady. Be prepared for a long wait...they estimeted about 3 hours for my lights, six hours later I came back and then proceeded to wait for another 45 minutes (to their credit, it was a cold/moist day so it may take longer to seal the lights)
If anyone goes to Rego, my office is only a few blocks away from their shop, so we could meet up if you want to see the lights before you go over there.
