New Shifter

I cant wait to get some pics of my new shifter knob to let you guys check it out. I am real old school man...and this fits me like a glove and works better than most shifter knobs I have used. You are gonna trip out....xtin will hate it, as some others will....and some will like it. (my guess is the people that like it will be old men like me that are old school rodders...lol) Just a teaser....my cam was out of batteries and the charger was at the office...so I have to wait....

They even make em with buttons for nitrous applications if you remember from back in the day. It had been so long since I remember these...I had to get one. I was tooling around my toolbox the other day and ran across an old B&M shifter...but couldnt find the adapter sleeves....so I went on the net and ordered this one. Back in the day...I had a majorly built camaro with Nitrous...and it had a Hurst dual gate shifter....and this handle makes the TL automatic work just about the exact same way. Retro as all get out though.....but...it does match the alum strips and plood ok....and is a FIRST for TL installs I am sure!

That is different!! I had one like that on my 89 S-10 blazer 5sp. It was nice, but not what "I" would do in the TL. You should be the first to have it, unless someone has one sitting around and beats you to it!!

BTW you haven't added the CF cover to your list!!

I love those shifters. Had a B&M (whick looked identical) back in the day.

I'm not sure if I'd like it in the TL or not. You better post some pics once it's installed!

Just don't grab any shifts like you would have in some serious American supercars. You'll break the TL shifter.

Why'd he rip out the stock 5-speed and install a 4-speed?

Ok...after a mixed review....well...lets say mostly negative or neutral review...here are the pics. Having driven with it for a while now...I love it personally. Works great for me and is very natural as I drive with my hand on the shifter pretty much 98% of the time...so this does not get funky like leather does...and fits in my hand perfectly...and lets me angle it just the way I like it too. Here are the pics...sorry....its raining out today so light is not good...

These young uns just don't understand. I think it's !

Now if I could just get Lightning Rods to work! (Talk about old school).

For me- the brushed look goes better with the ebony interior.

Was it hard to adapt over?

It doesn't look bad in there at all. It does look out of place, but its not horrid. I have seen worse in a ricer car (Big LED ball). It would have looked better with the CF interior!! But all in all, it doesn't look bad and as long as you like it, that is all that matters.

BTW MB, I am praying the part gets here tonight, I can't wait to see it!! Thanks again for the work on that part!!

Lightening Rods....wow....that is a blast! The old Hurst Olds....love it! Ya...for me...I decided its more function that looks....and this thing fits my hand and shift style just like I like it to....and thats what matters to me. That plood knob I had wasnt doing it for me....and due to the fact I rest my hand on the shifter so much...the leather looked like ass on no time.....

To adapt over....nope...not hard at all. All the stuff came with the knob....there is some threaded adapter tubes that come with for that reason...you just have to make sure to buy a metric knob/handle. I got the idea when I found my old B&M knob in a toolbox drawer...and started playing around with it. I couldnt find the adapters for that one...and I think it was standard anyway (I used the metric one I had stored back long ago in an Iroc Z I had that was manual)...so I ordered this one. Funny thing....you wouldnt believe how cheap they are....or maybe you would! List cost under $30. Now hows that shit for old school! I think the plood one I bought ran WAY more than that and is not HALF as functional as this one is for me. Matter of fact...it already had wear marks on the lower chrome ring where the chrome was wearing off and showing dull through. Something about driving hours on the highway with your hand resting on it....oil in hands wore the chrome plated plastic ring? Not sure. And weird enough....it was only at the front side that really didnt show...you just felt it all the time.

Ya...it does look a bit out of place as this is mostly a domestic thing...and old school domestic at that. I have always liked trying different stuff though...and this is just another one of em....

I hope you get it today too. (The CF Engine Cover) Let me know if you have any problems or have questions at all! It should show up just fine though! Mikey

So far...I think you have to be above about 38 or so to appreciate this shifter....its that old school....lol! I think they phased the use of these things for the most part...shortly before I became 16 years old...so some probably cant even remember em! They were like Kleenex back in the day....all over!

he didn't do a tranny swap, those were supposed to be separate quotes. first line being a joke, i.e. the old school 4 speed muscle cars.

mikey, it doesn't look as bad as i thought it was going to.....but still not a fan. enjoy it tho, like you said, its more functional for your personal use.

Hey, you don't have to be a :killer: to appreciate it...I think it looks great. However, I have to echo what some have said about it looking out of place in the TL. Cool shifter, yes...coordinates with interior, yes...in a TL, no. But hey, you answer "yes" to all of those, so it's all good . Now, if you could just get rid of that horrid parchment/plood...

Actually...we have been talking about stripping the interior for weight at some point...so funtionality is the key as looks are gone at that point!

And I'm 38 (which is not geezerish by any means, thank you!). This would fit in a Charger or Magnum, or maybe even a Mustang (e.g. American muscle car).

But yo, to each, his own!

BTW....thats a bracelet to aid in my arthritis......if thats what you are referring to. Sorry I have a bit of a medical condition. Damn...you laugh at the guys with the medical condition bracelets....lol....what a guy! You make fun of people in wheel chairs too? I wish I could get my jollys off of doing such...but unfortunately....it just makes me feel bad when I do something like that.

I mean...I dont care that you guys are hating my shift lever....I kind of find it funny to see the haters come in and say their peice. Its all good. Like you say...its all what works for you! I dont worry about what people say that way...but to start to dog a dude with major arthritis...seems to bit off key and in bad taste to me. Is in big and clunky....yep....but it has to be given the amt of magnetism that I need to deal with the pain I experience on a daily basis. (6000 gauss per each link) So to call me a pimp....gee...thanks guy! No...more like a guy with a medical condition due to many many years debt collecting and motocross to boot. Wrist injuries are no joke man....last for years and years and there is not a day that goes by that I do not have pain. I know you probably meant no disrespect...but I hear that shit too much from people that dont understand dealing with major pain on a daily basis... I lost my Mr. T starter kit years ago! lol.

BTW...funny you would mention tires....lol. My Deville I had before this car ran on Vogue rims and tires....which again...make fun of...but they cost a FORTUNE and are some of the highest quality tires you can get for a Sedan like that. I heard the pimp shit back then too. O'well...I guess if the shoe fits...wear it?

Anway...guess it just rubbed me a bit the wrong way that you would make jest at something that was related to a medical condition I have and seemed to have about as much class as laughing at a guy in a wheel chair. But I guess the wheelchair guy is a bit more obvious, isnt it. lol. I guess that why they make these things this way...so they are not that obvious....so I guess I should give you the benefit of the doubt there. BTW...thats why I was seeking a different design shifter lever too.....the knob on there really hurts my hand/wrist after about three hours...and I drive regular trips anywhere from 5-8 hours away....at times....18 hour straight drives....and this thing works great. No pain....hand sits squarely on the top...and its functionality to me is second to none. Wasnt really planning on getting into WHY I did this lever change...as ,medical stuff I tend to keep somewhat private...but when you go poking fun at a guys medicinal needs...seems a bit unfounded. I mean...what did I do to you man? Show you a shifter lever you didnt like? I mean...I can take the slamming and flamage, when properly placed, but to go that far out on a limb over what is a medical deal....seems a bit "street and pimp" yourself there sir. Especially from someone that puts "Dr." in front of their screen name? Or are you a DJ spinning records? Must be...or you would have recognized the bracelet a MILE away....

Ah...Damian....forgive me....just a little overly sensitive about the mid life "handicap" life doled out on me...lol! I live with this pain day in and day out and ignore it for the most part...and when it gets brought up....I try so hard to ignore it...I guess I get a little over annoyed as I then remember not only the stupid bracelet I have to wear....but then I somehow get my mind back on the pain thing again....my fault dude. But yes....this thing is a hassle. Sign a contract.....fshhh...as you hear that damn thing drag across a desk....a daily reminder of the cross I have to bear...

Its kind of a weird thing to describe....but I have the ability to just "mentally block the pain messages" my brain sends me daily.....but at times...its hard to do.

HM... i'm not sure drdamian meant it in an offensive way.. i didn't know what an arthirits bracelet was either till you explained it, but it didn't sound like he did either. IF he did know what is was then it might be wrong.. but like i thought too before it was just 'pimp bling'

anyways since you mentioned you do rest your hand on your shifter alot i hope its working out for yah.

And you are right...they dont design these things to be noticed as such....so you are correct 100%. Thats why I put the follow up on there about my fault....cause you are right...most people dont know or recognize it as something that works that way and just assume it is a regular bracelet thing....which is I guess why they designed them that way. I have to wear such a clunky one to get the gauss high enough to make a difference to me...so it can be a little embarassing at times. And I wear a suit and tie about half the week too.....which can even magnify the problem at times.

Here is the back side of it.....or one similar...mine is custom made and has one HUGE magnet on each link instead of these two small ones due to the fact I need high gauss to reduce the pain. Benefits beyond the pain relief.....I hardly get colds any more (huge benefit when you shake hands all day)...and if I do get ill....seems no matter what the illness...I am back up and flying in less than 24 hours...lol. Something about this thing....Doc said it would help....but didnt expect some of the other benefits too? Kind of cool in that regards...

lol....you are a hater arent you! There is a valid reason if you read the thread dude. And if you also would like to go over and make fun of the guy here with the handicap controls on his car...I am sure you can find him around too. And I note....Chevelles dont have metric threads? But I know where you are coming from....just guess I dont understand some of the immaturity. Check...its the 22 year old thing...ok....get it now. Just wait my friend...you will get old some day too....lol. I was probably like you one day too....and thats probably why god took it upon himself to hamper me with this condition...so hope the best for you buddy!!

You are right...I could have went with something else....I went with the one that worked best for me though...which seems to be the best option. If you do things just because somebody else says they are cool....and HAVE to have the acceptance of the general public...yep....your right...I would have went another way. Thanks for your opinion though!

I just wish everyone was as courteous and tactful as yourself in their hate for the lever....lol! I kind of was expecting people wouldnt like it...but as I stated earlier....its kind of for a pain problem I deal with....which was NOT something I really wanted to get into. I will just keep my findings and information to myself next time...lol......you would think I was stingy with helping people out or providing information or something the way some of these people act! I thank you for you tactfulness Chilly!!
