New Owner - 2005 Acura TL Base - DFW,TX

Hello to all!

I recently traded in my '04 Ford Lightning in Sonic Blue (I miss it already) and got an '05 TL with 103K on the clock for $12,000. It is in MINT condition considering the mileage. The car is NBP and Carmel Interior. The car has been fully serviced at David McDavid in Plano, TX. It just recently had $1800 worth of maintenance as well as services done. It has not had the 105K service done but I will be saving up for that to have it done. From my research, I think my first mod is going to the RV6 v3 J Pipe...might also get some high flow primary cats. Anyways, just wanted to introduce myself.

Ryan

Congrats Welcome to AZ! Check out the 3G garage for tons of info. Also register your TL at www.myacura.com in the USA or https://www.myacura.acura.ca/ in Canada. Save your Navi and Radio codes there. Check for any recalls your TL may need.

Congrats!

I'm curious though, what did the $1800 of maintenance entail?

I would think that the 1800 would have been the 100k maint, that is about the price of what it goes for at most dealers. You shodl def check into it and see what services they really did do.

Also the j-pipe from rv6 is awesome. Def worth the money, I recently put one in and love it. Changes the exhaust note a little, sounds a little deeper and opens up well when you get on it.

I am in the process of scanning everything in that was replaced. I have all the paperwork and I have already been to David McDavid Acura and the Service Manager said the car has always been serviced there and is up to date on everything. I do have a bad seatbelt buckle that is LifeTime Warranty according to the Window Sticker and the Service Manager. Going in on Wednesday for that....

PDF shows everything that was replaced.

I do miss the fun factor of the Lightning. Even being a 4700lb truck, with an intake, exhaust, and the 4LB lower pulley I had, it would seriously move. I raced many a Porsche Cayenne Turbo and they had no chance.

The TL does have a fun factor of it's own, however it is not as violent as the Lightning, but I also like the fact that I'm not getting 12-13MPG (mixed city and highway in the Lightning) in the TL.

air filter, oil change, wiper blades, hood props, door lock, window regulator, cabin air filter, alignment, balance and rotate, motor mount and rear brake pads.....for $932 labor. I could have done everything myself except the balance and alignment

Yeah, they did a good amount of work, which I can't complain about really. The CarFax shows that the transmission fluid has been flushed regularly which is something I was happy to see. I'm going to see if Acura can print me all the service records.

Nice upgrade (or downgrade, however you look at it). You said your 360HP lightning beat a 500HP cayenne twin turbo sounds almost unreal. Are you sure it wasn't the "S" (4.8L N/A) model ? Those are about the same HP range as your lightning. An intake, exhaust, and lighter pulley makes a difference, but not that much to beat another vehicle with over a 100HP and nearly the same weight

Well I had intake (instant 20HP on the Lightning), exhaust (maybe 10HP), and then a 5LB lower pulley for the supercharger. With those mods, I'm close to 420-430HP and almost 500LB/ft so yes, it was a Cayenne Turbo. He pulled away from a stop light at a pretty good pace so I saw the back badge. Then he got on it and pulled about about a car and the Lightning just sucked him up. They are were very underrated at 360HP ('03-'04 models were rated at 380HP/450LBft) so I know that I had the power. You also have to remember Cayenne Turbo's are AWD and I was just RWD. My truck would beat most things on the street from a dead stop to 100 because of the 500LB/ft at 2500RPM.

Anyways, I look forward to doing some very basic mods. I had an NA 94 Toyota Supra in high school and I remember that from a simple CAI and a mid pipe (much like the TL J Pipe) I gained 10-15HP and 15-20LB/ft at the wheels. Pretty easy to get some power out of well built NA motors from Japan.

^except our car comes with a cold air induction system.
so, unless you score a CAI on the cheap, it wouldnt be worth the $:HP gains.
