Talking New Member! Lots of ?'s

I'm very new to the Acura scene. 1st time owner. Just purchased a brand new 2008 TL Nav. with 50 miles on it. Color is Royal Blue Pearl. Got the dealer to throw in a set of molded painted flaps and a pin stripe. I got the car for 32k and picked it up last Thursday. Lots of things running through my head. Did I buy at the right time? Was that a good price? It was well below MSRP and Edmunds. Or should I wait longer maybe after the release of the 2009 TL. Maybe better deals on left over 08's then. Of course I liked the color and it was the only one I could find in the state in that color. Curious how the new TL will perform in the winter. Dealer said its ok to run 87 just would make engine noise and poor MPG. Not sure if I will follow their advice on that one. If it calls for more octane I think I will stick with the more octane. Wondering how much extra money will be spent in gasoline.

The extended warranty factory bumber to bumber no deductible would cost me $950 for an extra 2 years and 20k miles. Any ideas if it's worth it. I have till the end of the month to figure out if I want it.

I have read some things about how well it will perform in the snow belt (PA). Wondering if I should not get snow tires and if I do wonder if I could go with the 16 inch steel wheels without a problem. My snow driving is somewhat limited, but still this car is a sled in the winter I don't want to take any chances.

Welcome to the Acura scene. Nice choice of car. Of course you can use 87 octane, but if you do the math work, it's only 5 dollars more to fill up on premium. Plus, you do get less mpgs with 87 octane. At the end, you're not really saving money. Don't get a 32k car and then be cheap on it. Price sounds good. I can't comment on the snow or cold climates since I stay in Texas. Enjoy your TL.

Blue, welcome to the forums. Very nice looking car you got there!

I agree with Houston. Price is right on for a TL/NAVI. Premium gas will help your car perform the way it was designed to, which will usually put a smile on your face everytime you step on the gas. That won't be the case with 87 octane gas. Factor that in with the better mileage from 93 octane and this should be a no brainer. High test all the way!

I'm not too hot on the pinstripe. I think it looks perfect with the channel that runs along the side and through the door handles. But if you like it, that's what matters. Any idea what mods you might do on your new baby?

I have a question: did you try to search for any of these answers? There are a million threads on all these topics.

some people like to ask questions.. some people like to search for answers... one is a student.. one is a scholar.. if you are a scholar then help others to learn.

-32k is a really good price especially if that was otd without a trade.
-Don't use 87 octane, only 91 or better.
-Should be fine in the snow as long as you don't get a lot of ice. Maybe chains would work for you with your 16inch wheels.

A lot of people go with Honda 16" and snow tires .. I live in snow country and I used the 17" stock wheels for putting the snow tires on. On the stock A/S its not very good.

Places like Tire Rack have good winter tire packages. If you go 16" the tire size is 215/55/16. Assuming you have an A/T otherwise the rims fitting will be an issue.

I went with Dunlop Graspic DS-2's and they are excellent.

Welcome!

Your car looks great, not really feelin the pinstipe though but since it is your car you should keep it how you like it regardless of others' likes or dislikes!!

Like everyone else said you will start modding sooner or later, you won't be able to help it, my car was stock till I joined Azine.

Congrats on the purchase, you will find a LOT of info here.

if the price paid was OTD it's a good price, dealers are selling new 08 NAV TL's for 29k before TTL

Out the door, total cost of the car after taxes, freight, air condition tax, extended warranty, rustproofing, paint protection, and all other charges the dealers like to sneak in there.

Cool Price

Well that included all but the TTL. Only problem in my part of country there is no where else to go to deal. Next dealer is 60 miles aways and towards the west not east. And that is after I travel 50miles to the dealer where I got mine. So it's over 100 miles away from my house. So not like I could say well there selling them 29k OTD in NJ they would say well go to NJ then. Which is the a very far drive. I tried so hard to get them to drop the MSRP more then 31 but they would not budge. I had them increase lots on trades.

otd - 32k is a great deal! welcome and congrats on the beauty. this forum has a magical way of sucking your wallet dry unfortunately - let the addictive modding begin!

btw, don't use 87 octane - only 91. you'll pay for it in the end if you do otherwise

Red face Type S

Not really they (the stealership) only had one and I didn't like the color. I actually went to look at a used 2006 and ended up coming home with a new 08.

Welcome to the board. You are right about the blue; I don't see many of those on the road. As far as your questions:

- $32k; seems fair if it is OTD; after all you've got NAV right
- 87 octane; pay to play in my opinion; I couldn't give up the performance for a few bucks. Seems like you sacrifice in the fuel range
- As far as snow performance; this car is questionable on anything over 3-4 inches. Turn off the VSA and remember that it is very low slung. If you get many snows above 4 inches, I would look to some dedicated snow tires. I live in Columbus, OH and have gutted it out with A/S tires, but last winter was a real challenge!

Just my two cents.

Red face Tl

-Yep got navi
-I'm most concerned with what maintance issues by running lower octane then the performance factor
-snow might be a issue here! I got around ok with the civic, but according to the specs the TL sit just a smidge lower then the civic.

Congratulations on the new ride, beautiful! The price you paid is not bad, I took delivery of a new '08 Navi a month ago and paid $30,900 which added up to $33, 000 out the door w/ tax, tags, title.

I travel frequently to Garrett County MD which has similar winters to Somerset County, PA. , and ski at Seven Springs which is in Somerset County. I would strongly recommend a set of 4 good snow/ice tires. I haven't done any winter driving in the TL yet, but I would prepare for the worst considering Western PA winters.

Good luck with the car.

Hey, welcome and congrats on the TL. I live in Cumberland. I bought my TL in Gathersburg, MD about 2 hours from me. The best thing to do if you want the best grip with no worries is to buy another set of wheels with dedicated snow tires. I had the Goodyear Blizzack's on my 3.5 Altima and it would go anywhere in the snow. I currently have a set of Michelin X-ice on seperate rims for our Outback turbo, which is overkill for that car, but the wife drives it when it's snowing so that makes it ultra safe. Helps stopping and corners more than going. I like the X-ice tires over the blizzacks because they are less squirmy and are just as good.

The stock Michelins that came on the TL went in the snow, but you better know how to drive, because the grip was marginal at best.

When I get a new car I try to use up the factory tires then put snow tires on the factory rims and get aftermarket wheels tires for summer.

Will

Red face Rims & Warranty

According to TireRack.com I can put 16's on. Is this True? I got my Acura Care extended warranty for $605 72 month / 70k from Bernardi that was over a $350 savings from what my dealership was offering and they would not price match it.

Is that Bernardi Honda in MA? Sorry, can't help you with advice on the 16's. I have a Honda CRV and a Subaru Legacy that will handle the winter driving duties while the TL stays in the garage, at least for the next couple of winters.

Blue702 I don't know about 32K the best time to buy cars is late November the deals get ridiculous...for instance this is the deal I was just sent monday:

2008 Acura TL

Huge Discounts up to $7,876

Dealer Discount $4616

Your Price $29,109

Free Tech package Value of $3,260

( Navigation with Back Up Camera )

THIS IS ONLY VALID THROUGH THE INTERNET DEPT.

TOTAL SAVINGS $7,876

Also low 0.9% financing option available if qualified

Expires 9/27/2009 at 8:00pm

Thats a 08 TL Full Nav/Camera for only 29,109.....3,000 less than you paid. That 3,000 could of been used for:

A-spec kit
CAI
Catback Exhaust
Tints
Drop

3,000 goes a long way man so I would have to say you bought a little bit too early.

Wink Price

Not sure your location. But I heard they were offering such deals in NJ. There was no way my dealer in western pa would go that low plus they put the pressure on about it being the only blue one left in the state. And if they had to get one in it would have increased mileage and I would have to pay extra for delivery. All stealership tatics, but they only had a couple 08's left. I'm sure if this car was still left on the lot in December the price would be great too, but there was to many variables till then.

Yes I live in NJ

Also no added mileage most cars are trucked to new locations don't know what he's talking about.

And for 3 grand in your pocket you wouldn't take a 100 dollar trip to another state?

Doesn't quite weigh out.

Cool New Car

From my location NJ is a 300 mile and around a 5 hour trip one way. And I had two trade in's. So in gas alone to drive 2 trade in's to NJ not to mention having to mess around trying to switch everything over to PA since I purchased it in NJ. You see maybe why it was just a little better for me to do this. Yeah it makes me double guess if it was the a good deal. But I was not messing around at a dealership 300 miles away. I did ask how I would be charged more too have it delivered and their reply was you pay the sticker destination charge initially. If they have to get one in they would charge me another destination charge to have it trucked in or the other option was just pay the fuel to have it driven there, but that option would then have miles being put on the new vehicle. They said it was hard to work a good delivery deal when they want to push 09's and just sell off the 08's that were on the
lots.
