New looking at TL's..........

I'm new to this site and some of the cars on here are pretty badass............

I'm looking to get rid of my explorer for something more conicalness now with the way gas prices are going and I've always loved the new redesign 3rd gen TL's...

What are thing(s) that I should look out for when looking at say a 04-05 TL?

Also did the power output change from 05 - 06?? I was looking on autos.msn.com and for 05 said HP was 270hp/238tq and in 06 it's stated as 258hp/233tq.

Power did not change between 05 and 06, just the SAE measurement method changed. Still same power output.

BUY THE TL!!!!!!!!!

You can't go wrong with a 3rd Gen TL. I just traded up from a 04 TSX to a 08 TL-S. Both cars are awesome! Good luck with your hunt......

Definitely a good choice to get a TL, but make sure you get the right interior color (obviously you like black) because you will be looking at that everyday. Oh yea, the TL can easily get 30mpg in the highway.

for the 04's be weary of the transmission, do a search on it to read about the potential problems. also there are like 4 million little rattles, these bug me the most. if you don't trust or know the previous owner, make sure to change all the fluids & spark plugs and seafoam it when you get it. that 100-200 dollars will make her run like new. I've had an absolutely wonderful experience with AMSOil motor oil and tranny fluid, for brake, power steering and coolant go with honda fluids. Enjoy the car!!!

oh and NO TAN INTERIOR! YUCK!

Cool I guess a 05 would be a better choice then.......

LOL, I can see how you can go broke. I wouldn't do anything too drastic besides tint, wheels and maybe some lowering.

Yea looking preferably for grey interior and black would be the 2nd choice.

Ok.........looked at a couple TL's today...

We liked one but the mileage was way up there. It was a 06 w/ 65k miles. They said it had all its services updated. What are your opinion on vehicle with high mileage? The asking price is $23k and its certified, but we opted out of it due to mileage in that we could rack up over a 100k pretty quick.

IMO ebay can be a good place to find a car, if you can see it or have it inspected, prices seem lower cause as you say, people are wary of buying a car unseen, but use that to your advantage.

I really wouldn't worry to much about mileage with an Acura. My family has been buying acuras for over 15 years now. I just traded in my 93 CL for a 2005 NPB with 45000 miles. The CL had 285,000 miles on it and they still gave me $1500 at CarMax. This was with body damage to the left rear fendor from when my wife borrowed the car one day.

All of our Acuras have made it well over 100,00 miles before trading in. This is mostly highway miles but I have no worries my 2005 will make it 10 years and over 150000 miles.

i have an 06 and have had it only 1 year, i was the first owner, bought it early 07 with 30 miles, and i put 31k on it in that year. if i bought this car when it was first made i would probably have around 60k miles. as long as it is taken care of, it should last 200k easily. if it is the color you want and has the options you want, i say take another look at it. but its up to you. good luck, the TL is a great car

Couple of corrections. It is NBP and the car I traded in was a 97.

Make sure it has Navigation. That screen is the heart of the car's interior, not to mention the voice control functionality you get with it.

There's plenty more non-Navs out there for sale ......... for a reason.

Yea I would like to have nav but finding them in the right combo for the wife is tougher. Plus she isn't too tech savvy with things like this so she wouldn't get much use out of it.

Get the Acura. Those things run forever. My Dad still drives his 94 Legend with 220K miles on it.

Hey not trying to thread-jack but this information is relevant, I think.
I live in IL and I've been calling dealers to get quotes on 05/06 TLs and all my quotes seem to be much higher than yours. I'm looking for NBP/Ebony, non-Nav.

McGrath Acura
2005 TL: 46Kmi $24K, 18Kmi $26K

Continental Acura
2006: 29Kmi $27K

Muller Acura
2005: 40Kmi $22K

Other than the last one, they all seem much higher than the ones posted in this thread.

The TL's "can" run on regular fuel. As a newer car, it automatically retards the timing itself and does a VERY good job. By using premium fuel you will get (slightly) better fuel economy but as the cost difference between regular and premium expands, that difference is becoming less and less. I got 30MPG on a 4 hour trip one way on premium. On the EXACT same trip and going the same direction in the same weather conditions and same temp (1 week later) i got 29MPG using regular.

Ok so the difference in regular vs premium isn't much of a difference, but you can run regular is the point. Correct?
