Arrow New Car Smell

Just got my TL-S two weeks back and it still smells new ...I know over time this will lovely new car smell will slowly wear off...so I wanted to know what kind of air freshener / leather conditioner etc. I should use to keep the car in tip-top shape and keep that new-car smell

I have never used air freshemer in my car. I still sorta have the new car sent in my car..i got my 05 TL in Jun 05.

I just ordered some Zaino "Leather in a bottle" with along with Z5 pro and CS. Waiting for it to come next week, so i can see what all the fuss it about with CS.

I have hear alot of people like Zaino leather smell. I currently used Lexol the scent it okay, some people dont like it. I also used meguir leather conditioner...I dont like smell..smell like lotion.

I let you know how the Zaino "leather in a bottle" turns out next week.

the air freshener i use is Treefrog apple. it has a very mild scent, i don't even notice it most of the time

and ive read/watched somewhere that the "new car smell" is actually bad for your health

Haha...thanks for the input guys...I guess I'm better of staying away from air fresheners...just stick to a really good leather conditioner...I have the Meguier leather conditioner (which I use on the SL) but was looking to see if the Acura guys had something better in mind

You're right. "New car smell" is actually the result of compounds, chemicals, and materials in the creation process of the vehicle. It only smells that way for a while when the windows are kept rolled up, making air circulation impossible. (Hence the reason most new cars have a scent dubbed "New car smell," which has been found to be poisonous in some instances.) And after having said all that - i love NCS lol. My car (06) smells like me (Armani Black Code) lol.

Kumho sells a tire that lets off a lavender smell for a whole year. Not really a new car smell but alot better than staled burgers and fries.

The zaino 'leather in a bottle' will make your car smell very like new. It's like you just had your leather replaced. I like the product very much. Their wax is awesome as well!

why would you do such a thing? so everyone outside your car can get that nice whiff of lavender as you whizz by them?

Zaino...simply the best. The leather care smells just like leather...your car will smell new again.

Z5 wax will make your car look great. I've using the Zaino products now for 5 years and they are impressive. Their Z6 detail spray will keep your car looking wonderful in between washings as long as the car isn't too dirty.

I smoke cigars in mine, to the point the windows get a film on them.

I use the ZEP smoke/odor remover that is sold at Homedepot, and the car smells great. Only problem is that the can is the size of Lysol.

The best new car smell I can remember was my parent's 1978 Ford Fairmount station wagon... probably toxic but I'm still alive!

I just cleaned the seats on my 06TL for the first time at 5,500 miles with Lexol. (I had some left over, but I hear the Zaino works better.)

A light cleaning with a damp cloth and cleaher and a quick wipe and buff with the conditioner. (The seats looked better unconditioned in my opinion, but...)

After sitting in the sun for a little while, it smelled like "new leather", but not "new car". Still smells mostly new though.

If you REALLY like that smell, sometimes getting new floor mats has that kind of new-car scent. If you go through mats as quickly as I do, you'd realize it!

But don't ever use the "New Car Scent" sprays. They are icky and don't smell like new car. They usually just smell like sweetened Armorall!

Air Freshener: SQUASH MARINE.

I don't leave the air freshener wide open like ppl are suposed to. I leave it open half way so that when i get in my car, there's a hint of smell from the air freshener but u can still smell the leather...

it is rather nice....

To maintain that new car smell, my best advice would be to never eat in there, never smoke in there, and try to keep all moisture that gets left on the floor mats from your shoes to a minimum. Greasy food that gets spilled and trapped in crevices is like the nemesis to the new car smell, to say nothing of film deposited from smoke (cigarettes, cigars, ganja, or otherwise).

My last car was nearly nine years old and it still had a faint scent of new car smell to it...and that's saying something because it had cloth seats, which are infinitely harder to keep clean than leather. I just never have anything in my car that could possibly create a smell. The only exception is when I get a Starbucks and the steam from the mocha emanates from the hole in the lid. That scent usually dissipates pretty quickly, though.

As mentioned from a number of other replies, Zaino leather in a bottle is as close to keeping that new car smell as your going to get IMO. I have a 2004 TL and numerous people who ride in my car for the first time think it is brand new.

Zaino products are worth every penny.

I think the current new car smells are also toxic

ZEP makes great products. Their window cleaners are the best I've ever used

One of the best conditioners if you can find it is this one ... also Meguiars #40 Rubber & Vinyl conditioner smells like new leather. It can be used on the dash and all the doors etc.

Those smells are toxic. There were several articles about it in recent months. However, I have a feeling what I breath in the car doesn't come close to the toxic air I breath in just walking down a NYC street. At least I hope not.
