Needle Sweep!

Needle Sweep!
Someone posted a link in the audio/video section to a TSX that had info on diag modes for the climate control and gauge testing
Well I tried the gauge test and it works on the TL also!
Instructions:
Hold trip/reset button
Turn headlights on
Turn ignition switch to ON
Within 5 seconds turn the headlights off, then on, then off
WIthin 5 seconds release the trip/reset button, then push it 3 times
The MID will light up and test itself, all dummy lights will flash, and the needles will sweep from min to max to min
Pushing the trip/reset button repeats the test!
I'm going to try and get a nifty long exposure picture.. iphone pics turned out crappy

I remember someone asking that question on the TSX forum when they did the test; I thought it was due to the car not running? I believe if you run the navi diags with the car not running you get a B-CAN or F-CAN error message as well..

It should work.. 07-08 gauge packs are different than 04-06 but I doubt Acura would have made that much of a change before the model changes generations..

Doesn't sound like it's going into diag mode; are you following the directions correctly? Are you head lights maybe hitting the auto position? Are you starting the engine instead of putting in the "ON" position?

up down up down left right left right a b select start..
.. CONTRA!!!
tekno.. no point really.. just neat I guess; some people like useless little fun things like this - I first saw in the new Subaru Legacy, when you start the car just the needles light up [red], then they all do a full sweep to the max and back, then the gauges light up... again, useless.. probably.. but as a person who love gadgets and lights, its fun and one more nifty thing the car does!
subuzz - your headlights should be off in the end..
Okie..
Push your select/reset button and HOLD it
Turn the head lights ON
Turn the ignition to ON
Turn the headlights OFF, then ON, then OFF [you have 5 seconds to start this]
Release the select/rest button, then push it 3 times
You should hear a beep, then all of the dummy lights flash, and the needles sweep.. pushing the select/reset button again repeats the test... I had my door closed when I tested it

Error2
p.s., the tsx manual also mentioned being able to make some beeping by hitting the cruise, vsa, or parking brake buttons while in that diag mode... gonna try it cause it sounds like fun too lol

I tried and I couldn't get it to work. Followed the instructions exactly.
Maybe I need to put in my Navi code? (I just reset my battery yesterday .. so lazy to put in the codes :P)

Ok so where did you guys see the error? Cause uh... My MID just says 888888 and there are no errors.. if you push the select/reset button it should beep; it tests the beep circuit first then it does the gauges I believe
Should work no matter what because we're not using any diags in the navi system; this is a gauge cluster / dummy light / chime diagnostic

just a clarification, when you turn the ignition "on" to enter the diagnostics, you dont start the car, right? maybe the diagnostics work both ways and those who dont turn the engine on are getting the error.... i'll have to try that just in case.
thanks for the help!

Tried it and it works. Hold the sel/reset button with your left arm though. its easier. Turn on the headlights (not auto). and turn the ignition to on (navi will turn on). then turn off the headlights then back on then off again. THEN let go of the sel/reset button. and press the sel/reset button 3 times. Nice find.

Guess you could ask your dealer about any errors you get; you're only in a diag mode, there's not settings to change that I know of so you cannot screw anything up in this mode...
The beep is normal; it's the first part of the test, pushing the button starts the test process over again
