Need some sympathy and a new GF
So, the GF asks to drive the car yesteday while we were out and about. She's a good driver, so I don't mind usually. I, like so many of the TL owners on this forum, keep my car in immaculate condition.
As she is pulling to a parking spot bordered by a curb, she goes wide on the turn and GRINDS the wheel on the curb!!! Oh man, I could have flipped right there. Got out and looked and wouldn't ya know it; I have my first blemish: a 1-inch long scratch on the border of the wheel.
Anyone have a good shrink?

Yeah, if you want to be with her for the long haul you better let that one go.
If you don't she will paint you as a complete ass to all of her friends and family.
Then I would use it your advantage.

Bottom line: s*** happens, and it could've just as easily been you, so go easy on the GF.

Wider tires
Is it possible to get tires that are a little wider when replacing stock?
Although I guess by the time the tires wear out the damage will have been done...

You're all correct and no, I didn't say anything stupid or do anything mean. It's just tough when you get that first blemish on a brand new car...
She felt bad enough without me ever having to say a word. She can stick around for a while.

When I was going with my wife (that is before we were married), the first time she borrowed my car she didn't get it out of the underground parking lot at my condo before she got into an accident. I got this phone call with sobbing on the other end of the line and I knew the car was in trouble. She told that she had come around a corner and hit a stationary moving van which was parked in the driveway. I couldn't resist and asked her to make up her mind. Was it stationary or was it moving.
She did about $1,000 damage to my beautiful 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix SE (before you diss the car, remember it was the Motortrend Car of the Year that year).
We still laugh about the stationary vs. moving van thing.

How many here have heard those chalk board schrill words.... IT'S JUST A CAR, they just don't get it....
Last ding my wife put in the car (not this one, YET) I just said it's ok honey and quietly had a heart attack...

Forgive her (because you could of easily done the same) But don't forget (As in, now that you know how sensitive you are about ur car) maybe you shouldn't let her (or anyone else) drive next time.
Anyways, be a good sport and a forgiving boyfriend (girls love guys that can forgive their many mistakes) and just remember not to let people drive ur precious TL.
