Question Need some help deciding on taillights...

Gentlemen I found these on Ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/300787284495...3&vxp=mtr#shId

I like them, the only question I have is what bulbs will I need to replace the factory ones to make them light properly? I've looked around for replacement bulbs and so far I can't find the right replacements.

Still uses stock LED tail light circuit board (which lights up red for brake feature so, no problem) so it works just like factory, no error!

Back tail lights use LED boards like this one.

I have them. The brake lights are red but the turn signals are white. So you need to get a different set of bulbs for that. I wouldn't worry about getting the chrome covered bulbs, as some members mights suggest, but just get a red bulb instead. If you get the chrome covered bulbs the light that exits will be too dim.

a family friend is a mechanic and he had some bulbs laying around the shop so i just took a couple of those. but if i remember correctly those chrome bulbs i bought off ebay were 7440? You should definitely check to see if that is right though because i can't really remember. Just get some red 7440 off ebay if you can. that should do

another option is to go through acktl05 who does some quality work on headlights, tail lights, and other miscellaneous stuff. Not to mention he's a very helpful guy

Hey OP, not sure if you decided yet but I have these tails and love them. I have NBP, but I see you have AM, smoked tails will look amazing on it.

Here's some pics of them off and lit up.

Like others have said, you take the LED board out of your stock tails and put them in these. As for the turn signal, you will need new bulbs that flash red, you have the option of LED or finding a standard bulb that lights up red. Good luck!

Keep in mind if you go LED you will need to wire in resistors or do the signal relay resistor. That info can be found here.

It really depends on what theme you're going for. Personally with the dark grey color of your TL, I think black would look awesome on it. Smoked side markers only add to it

Type-S tails are really nice as well.

They are both very different, it basically comes down to this: Do you want red in the tails or not? I really like my smoked because I've basically eliminated all color from my car.

I have anthracite and these tails as well if you wait til tomorrow i can get some pics up for you (I'm getting a new phone tonight and my current phone camera is broken). I think they look awesome, but they don't have the red reflector in them so technically i think they're illegal. So ya it's up to you. There don't seem to be a lot of antracite TL's with type-s or these smoked tails so it'll be pretty unique either way!

Well I looked up GA code:

TITLE 40. MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC
CHAPTER 8. EQUIPMENT AND INSPECTION OF MOTOR VEHICLES
ARTICLE 1. EQUIPMENT GENERALLY
PART 2. LIGHTING EQUIPMENT

O.C.G.A. § 40-8-23 (2007)

§ 40-8-23. Taillights

(a) Every motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, and pole trailer manufactured prior to January 1, 1954, shall be equipped with at least one taillight mounted on the rear, which when lighted as required in this article shall emit a red light plainly visible from a distance of 500 feet to the rear.

(b) Every motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, and pole trailer manufactured after January 1, 1954, shall be equipped with two taillights which meet the specifications provided in this Code section.

(c) Every taillight upon every vehicle shall be located at a height of not more than 60 inches nor less than 20 inches, to be measured as set forth in subsection (b) of Code Section 40-8-21.

(d) Either a taillight or a separate light shall be so constructed and placed as to illuminate with a white light the rear registration plate and render it clearly legible from a distance of 50 feet to the rear. Any taillight or taillights, together with any separate light for illuminating the rear registration plate, shall be so wired as to be lighted whenever the headlights or auxiliary driving lights are lighted.

(e) All lenses on taillights shall be maintained in good repair and shall meet manufacturers' specifications.

HISTORY: Ga. L. 1953, Nov.-Dec. Sess., p. 556, § 106; Code 1933, § 68E-204, enacted by Ga. L. 1982, p. 165, § 4; Code 1981, § 40-8-23, enacted by Ga. L. 1982, p. 165, § 10.
[/blockquote][/blockquote]

THEN we get to the brake light portion and there is a good piece in here that you should look at.

(a) Any motor vehicle may be equipped and when required under this article shall be equipped with the following signal lights or devices:

(1) A brake light on the rear which shall emit a red light and which shall be actuated upon application of the service (foot) brake and which may but need not be incorporated with a taillight; and

Guess from what I read, if it's visible in the daytime and at night from 300 ft it's all good.

It would appear smoked tails are legal in your state. As long as they are visible and emit red light they are legal. There is nothing stating that you have to have red in the tail light housing itself.

Oh no I loved it. Sadly though my wifey already decided for me I was getting type S tails....

I tried to sway her, but she wouldn't budge. Maybe I'll change up later. The good news is she also got me a oem like spoiler and the type-s Tails today. They should be in by next Week this time. I got my smoke side markers and iSimple today, installing iSimple tonight and tomorrow. Side markers are in, still working the iSimple iPod adapter.
