Need New Brake Pads - 6MT (ok with dust)
I've done a weekends worth of searching (and today) for a thread where someone needs new brake pads for their Brembos and DOES NOT care about dusting and I came up empty.
So what does everyone suggest to go with if you are OK with OEM levels of dust?
I also read that the EBC red/green stuff pads chew up rotors, is there any validity to this? That was a statement by one guy, and I was trying to find out if anyone else agreed with it but again came up empty.
I also have to replace the rear pads, any recommendations there(first time since I bought the car in June of '04)?
Any advice would be great!
Ps. My front rotors are only a year old. Never turned. Only about 24k miles on them, this will be their second set of pads

If I'm OK with OEM levels of dust, I'm probably buying OEM Pads again.
No noise. Effective stopping power.

I had an '04 TL 6mt. I replaced all 4 rotors (blanks) and used EBC YellowStuff pads. They were awesome. Unfortunately, I sold the car after only 2000 miles. I now have an '08 CBP TL-S. Woot!!! I didn't notice any abnormal dusting. I went with these pads instead of the RedStuffs. The RedStuffs were a progressive pad that had a moderate initial bite. YellowStuff had a good initial bite and got a lot better with more use. ZERO FADE I would recommend.

The Acura $150 OEM 6MT front pads are Brembo's.

Not sure who makes the rear one for Honda, they were white box items IIRC. I went with both front & rear OEM's & really don't see that much dust compared to my BMW330.

Rotors are also Brembo but not from Acura.

I have my brakes done at the dealer since they use the lathe that resurfaces the rotors ON THE CAR. That way, the new surface is perfectly perpendicularly aligned to the wheel hub and spindle. I'm open to trying green stuff ceramics next time, but I need to find a brake shop that has that lathe.

I know they are not inexpensive but if you went with Racingbrake replacements you'd get away with multiple pad replacements without the need to resurface at all!
We like the Hawk HP+ and Racingbrake ET500 for max stopping power and fade resistance. These will wear down the softer Brembo rotors faster requiring resurfacing and replacement, so we, again, suggest Racingbrake rotors.

Just to clarify, this poster does NOT care about dusting. The Hawks provide good performance, and the Ceramics especially do this without creating a lot of dust.

Where and how much were the drilled Brembo front rotors?
They look like a nice replacement for the OEM's.

MrHeeltoe has it right. I don't care about dust really. I'd like something that bites like the OEM (or better), has less fade than OEM, and don't make noise. It would be great if they were cheaper than OEM too ($100 to $140).
I have rags to take care of dust.
I'm thinking of just doing OEM again, but I'm going to look into the EBC greenstuff pads. Thanks miiipilot.

Resurfacing the rotors isn't always necessary. Less material means more prone to warping.
Mrheeltoe
I'd love to put new rotors on, but don't have the cash.

Heya me1abPSU,
I live in Cleveland, OH and that was my biggest concern. I ordered the YellowStuffs from www.buybrakes.com
I corresponded with Dave. He answered all my dumb questions and made me feel good about ordering the Yellows and from that website. Very professional and courteous.
The initial bite was great IMO. And I am a late braker. I'm not sure of the operating temperature range, but they never faded or failed and I drive pretty hard. Ex BMW CCA and SCCA member.
I searched for a long time, and with all I read, I chose the YellowStuffs. I was not disappointed AT ALL!!!
Do some research, but I would get em again
