Need advise with trade

I have a new 05 TL apec. I owe what it is worth. The problem is that I bought it auto and with only 1500 miles I have heard my tranny pop twice at different times. I know I have a bad tranny and that I am going to have problems. I want to trade it for the same car just with a 6MT. Should I tell my dealer about the tranny problem before I bring up trading?? Should I just try to trade?? Also, how are they going to try and screw me on a trade?? I had an 03 type-s and had tranny problems. Stupid me making the same mistake twice!!

hmm.. well, the dealer's just going to offer to "fix" the tranny problem. won't help you with your trade.

you could sell/trade-in your aspec, and get the 6MT non-aspec and then add aspec yourself afterwards.. you could save a couple of grand compared to what the dealer would charge.

that's the best advice i can give ya... you'd lose some money no matter how you go about this, unless the dealer is accomodating or have a 6MT that they badly want to get rid of.

Tranny POP? €What you talking about Willis? There are NO stories of 04 Auto TL's with tranny problems. The ONLy way you can have an issue is if you have been irresponsibly racing (and "popping the clutch at high RPMs). You can try to tell your dealer about the tranny problem but he's probably going to see right through you as well.

Thanks for the advise NDX2. Doubt they have a six speed they want to give away. Guess I am stuck with the auto. Sux they sell such a nice and NOT cheap ride knowing it has a serious problem. Thanks again.

Tranny issues??? Are U sure???

Not sure if that's really the tranny issue on your 5AT 05TL, but no matter what problems it may have, you should trade it to the dealer and say nothing. Since Acura has warranty on the new car and that tranny, they will do all the works to make sure your car be the problem-free "certified" used car.

IMO, if you report the problematic tranny, your trade-in value "may" go down, and they will exercise the warranty to provide the "refurbished" tranny, and sell that used car without saying a word about "tranny". Why not keep mouth shut!

If the dealer finds the problem after getting your car, they will still replace it by Acura warranty, sell it, and say nothing.

This is not selfish or scam. You just return the "possibly damaged" item/product back to Acura.

Honda has auto tranny problems since the prelude. And that is how far back I can remember. Might be longer. The car is new with 1500 miles. Mostly driven by my wife. I take the train to work and she has no job. Also she hates high speeds. I cant "POP" a clutch if the car is automatic. Since its auto I dont even think about racing it. It makes me feel stupid. "So what you talking about ndabunka?

Just a thought but are you sure it's not just buyers' remorse? The 6mt drivers tell a good story about how great that transmission is.

Not long ago you made the decision to buy an automatic. Probably cost you at least $2000 to change your mind. You were supposed to decide before the purchase. If there is a problem with your tranny, dealer will fix it.

There were no transmission issues with any preludes. Problems have only been with 5MT and six cylinder engines. That is except for a few here and there like everyone has.

I know and I could imagine how "scare" people would feel about TL's tranny since 2GTL/CL/MDX? have tons of tranny failure issues so far. People even worry the same thing may take place on RL or other Acura vehicles. Yes, maybe, but we haven't seen the trait or mechanic trend on them yet. IMHO. I cannot speak for others, but my Acura Legend tranny is so perfect since 1994.

As for 3GTL's tranny issue, you may like to check this out...

Its not that they tell a good story. With a 6MT all you have to worry about is the clutch. (I have owned 6MT before) I don't want to be dealing with Acura about my tranny. I already went through that once. They paid for 5 rental cars in the one year I had the 03 type-s. You cant blame me for being a little afraid. I love honda products but an auto trans is something I cant trust in an Acura. Honda is to blame for me and many others losing trust. They wouldnt increase the warranty on a auto tranny up to 100k miles if they did not know there was a problem. (This is what they did on my type-s) I have owned 5 new cars. I know when an car has a tranny problem. I have a family of mechanics. Both Acuras are showing the same signs. So i do have regrets and its not a money issue. Buying an auto is my regret. Thanx for the reply.
