NAV SYSTEM 2 questions

So I have 2 questions on the NAV system for ya all as I consider whether to get it or not.

1. Can it be installed after market in the non NAV model (translation...don't know if I can afford it right now...can I add it later???)

2. Is there a monthly fee with these like with the XFM or not?

One thing to add to the nos...you would have to purchase update cd's for the navi system (yearly?) I think they cost about 200. They are optional but you may want them to keep the system up to date. This is helpful if you live in an area like mine where new streets are being added regularly.

You can't install the factory model nav, but you can get an alpine deck with the flip out screen. I think I read a post where someone was doing that to their Non Nav TL...

from the looks of the center console i do not know how someone would fit the alpine flip out headunit, there is do visible spot for it. most headunits are 1 or 2 dins. you would probably have to hack up the center console in some way to get a spot for it. i have the alpine unit in my bmw and it works great. i removed the factory 1 din headunit and replaced it with the alpine. however it cost me 2500 bucks for the system. if you want navigation in the car get it from the factory. it will cost you more later and you will not get all the features of the stock unit. they aftermarket install will be alot harder than you think.

like I said, I thought I saw someone else doing that to their TL. Maybe there's a dash kit to fit the 1din into that 2 din slot (or is it 2.5 din)?

try searching if you're interested in going (and can afford) aftermarket...

the stock console doesn't look like the standard 1/2 din consoles. you will probably have to rip out the entire thing and make a costum console to fit the aftermarket unit. i don't even want to guess how much that is going to cost. better call pimp my ride and see if west coast custom can get it done.
