Accents and voice recognition

How "robust" is the TL's voice recognition with respect to foreign accents? Any experience anyone?

Not really...

I guess "accent" is all a matter of degree. I have a "West coast Canadian" accent ("tor-on-tow"), which is arguably a lot different from a Toronto area accent ("tor-onna"). When I say "about", I say "a-bowt", not "a-boot" like someone from the East coast (Maritimes) might.

It seems reasonably forgiving, though: the key thing seems to be saying the keywords in the right order ("CD PLAY", not "PLAY CD"). My suggestion would be...whomever has the accent should go to an Acura dealer and try it out. They can usually provide a quick reference of commands, and the person can sit down and say "CD PLAY DISK 4" or "FIND NEAREST HOSPITAL" and such to see how it behaves for them.

Are you asking about a regional accent or that of someone who speaks English as a second language?

I can't respond to voice accents but I have noticed if I'm asking for a particular channel (usually XM) and I say "Xm channel five -zero", instead of "fifty", it ALWAYS gets the channel right. It seems to understand the single digits better than the whole number. I'm not saying it does poorly hearing whole numbers.......

I guess I don't really have an "accent" like NY or Boston (even though NYC is 2 hours and Boston is 1 hour away)... but the Navi had a hard time understanding me twice yesterday. *shrug* nothing a little Navi training won't help

no problems with accents at all. i let my friends try the navi out and all of them had no problems with the commands. its more a problem with road noise, when i have the windows down sometimes its hard for it to understand.
