I need the automated map... I'd get lost walking from my front door to the car if I didn't walk the same path everyday! :lol2:

jk, my sense of direction isn't THAT bad...

With the NAVI. I spend so much less time planning. Instead of asking directions I just ask for an address, type it in and enjoy the ride.

I bought the NAV primarily because I didn't like the look with out. I also thought it would be handy on the when we travel.

I went with Nav because I had the Nissan Nav in my 02 Maxima... and when I saw the dash of the TL with the bigger screen and voice commands, I fell in love.

And since I HAD nav, I couldn't give it up.

Cool I have NAVI because...

I got NAVI because I love gadgets. I also want bragging rights to the latest technology. I want to impress my friends and piss off my enemies. I will use it to score with chicks who might not otherwise entertain the thought.

And that's the unvarnished truth. Pfffft!

There are a couple of threads ever talking about this topic.

IMHO, I don't think it's language's problem. Even it is interpretable, you still cannot get US maps out of it. If your DVD doesn't contain this type of data and software cannot read it, you will get nothing although you move the whole Japan system here.

I bought it with the Navi...it's great to have and with the voice recognition of almost 300 commands it's even more techie.

I love it!

With navi. I wouldn't have bought the car if it wasn't available. I'm happy.

Cool

I didn't get the Navi, and I am perfectly content. Frankly, I think the non-Navi screen looks much better. The Navi, IMHO, was too obtrusive and distracting.

I had the Navi in my '01 TL and hardly used it. I saved the $2K and invested in custom wheels.

Just my 2-cents!

No Navi, never really drive when I travel and I have lived in Florida my whole adult life. But, I do think they are great and if I lived in unknown territory or traveled or did sales it would be ideal.

Got the Navi.

Debated for awhile whether or not to get it. Originally was going to get the non-navi and spend the money on OEM 18" wheels/tires. But after seeing the non-navi dash, I decided to get the Navi strictly cuz I personally think it looks better. The added features of voice control and touch screen was a plus as well.

With how popular NAV is becoming. I see it becoming pretty much expected in no time... just like A/C, power locks, etc.

For me, NAV completes the car. Without it, the car wouldn't be the same.. Everytime I see a non-navi TL, it seems so dull/empty inside. I still this Acura did this on purpose... sneaky little fellas.

Now, my g/f.. she still doesn't like the NAV. Would you believe that she brought the NAV up in an arguement last night. She said something to the fact like 'You think you're always right and I'm always wrong.. <words words words> you even think the NAVI is right more than me'. To which I so smoothly replied, 'umm.. well.. it is'.

Yeah.. I didn't get any love'n last night, heh.

A TL without Nav is like a hotdog without mustard. (It's a MUST!)

well..

No navi for me...I think its great though. For me it would have cost like an extra 4500 when all was said and done(navi at msrp--no navi close to invoice). I do have an aftermarket one of these though and they work just fine with even more updated data and POI...
http://www.magellangps.com --roadmate 500...about 700 dollars. The rest of the money is going towards tint/tires and maybe a spoiler.
There are plenty of aftermarket solutions that will work great in your car.

Nav vs No Nav

I have to admit that the nav system was really tempting when shopping for my new TL but the fricking thing is really expensive. After driving for many years, getting lost is not such a big problem, it happens but not often.
I guess it boils down to an economic decision, Have smaller payments for less time or have a car with a overpriced talking GPS..You rich guys, go for it but us poor folk will have to continue using the $4.50 WalMart travel atlas. Oh well....

cblackburn I agree, the non-navi car (or vehicles in general) seem more dull w/o Navi. It's like "all I can do is *drive* in this thing? I love my '00 Navi, and wouldn't have bought the car, without Navi. Same with my upcoming ABP/Camel '04. Soon!

love my NAV - wouldn't have it any other way...

people ask... how did you live without NAV before ?

- I don't know, we just did.
but now that we have the choice, why deprive yourself from it ?

it brings me an additional 20k a year by being able to bill more hours to my consulting customers... in the big city of Houston. So to me it's very worth it.!

- I already got 3 of my friends hooked on it too, it's like a drug (but legal).

Think of how many hours you could bill your customers if you got lost all the time by not having NAVI !!

Yeah, the "what did we do before power windows' argument is very weak. The option greatly enhances the character of the car, and makes it much more than a transportation appliance. I think the TL is a different car without it, and on another thread someone made the ridiculous claim that Navi actually REDUCES the resale! What horse****!

Regretting my decision a little....

As a big time gadget freak I have a great Garmin portable NAV unit that does door to door routing. I use it when I am going somewhere that I am not familiar with and that's it. I find it sits for months without use. Frinds I have with NAV equipped cars say the same thing, "I just don't use it much".

Using this argument, I opted NOT to get the Nav unit with my TL. Although I think that the TL's NAV would go unused for the same extended periods of time as my portable unit, I did not realize the additional voice commands that came with the Nav system. For this fact alone, and possible resale value issues, I now wish I would have stepped up and purchased a NAV car.

It's a fact. Residuals are lower on the Navi version. Check the leasing residuals to see who the real horse**** is.
