nail in tire, Do I need to replace a pair?

I just got a nail in the outside edge of the tire. Non-repairable. The other front tire has %50 tread on it, so replacing it kinda sucks. I didn't want to replace with the current make of tires and was going to put 4 of something on in the future.

If I just rotate the new single and put it on the back, any issues?

I think there might be issues since the thread % will be different... I guess how soon are you planning on upgrading to all 4 tires?

Lets say u spend 50 on one tire, then in the future you purchase 4 at 100 a piece... It's a tough call but i'd say replace 2 tires and not just one.

I was going to replace with michelin pilot sports A/S at the end of the year... Ah well might have to bite the bullet and buy sooner than I wanted to.

See if you have any used tire places in your area. You might get lucky....

simple idea, buy 1 new tire, but that on the back, put one of the back tires on the front so the alignment will not be that affected, or if it is, minamully. This way you save money. If not, look for some used tires.

What kind of tires do you have on right now ?...I know the navi TL's (including type-S's) come with michelin mxv4's...I personally think they're the best for all season...and the non-navi come with bridgestone's

Here's my suggestion, buy 4 new tires of w/e brand you had planned to get at years end...and keep the 3 old tires as spares just in case something happens...

Or you could use the full spare out of the trunk and just buy 1 new OEM tire so its balanced

I'd look for a used tire. If you can't find one, get a MATCHING new tire, install it on the rear axle, and be done with it until it's time to replace all 4.

csmeance, you're incorrect. Alignment will NOT be affected by rotating or moving the tires.

Buying the 4 new Michelin Pilots now will work too. Just sell the used tires on Craigslist or eBay.

it was loosing air pretty quickly so I decided to try the one tire approach and put the new one on the back. Seemed reasonable. The guy said if I wasn't happy with it, see him by Sat and he'd put four new ones on and take back the single. what the H... can't hurt to try it. I don't detect any difference yet, no pulling, we'll see when I get it on the highway.

They are Turnaza el42s.... So I really din't want to do this but...

I agree with 260HP and did the exact same thing about 6 months ago. Flat tire due to a nail in the sidewall - not able to be repaired. I first looked for a used tire and finally just bought a new matching EL42.

I had no handling issues at all.

Buy a new tire of the same make/model/size, the difference in diameter is very slight and will not cause any problems in daily driving in the front or rear.

If you were qualifying for Indy it would be a different answer.
