my friend's cobalt

My friend has a 5speed cobalt, the base model. Since he bought it, he has put on an intake, headers, and exhaust. It really suprised me how quick it is.

My 03 TLP has intake, headers, pulleys, exhaust, typeS manifolds.

We were both spinning off the line, but from 0-80 i beat him by 2 cars, pretty close race from a dig.

It was on an open 2 lane road with no traffic.
Next time it will be at the track

opinions?

Beautiful Race man... I see you have a Nice launching tecnique since the cobalt is lighter than the TL.

so you think it is normal for him to stay so close? I don't know the exact weight, but it is 150hp stock...h/i/e probably gives him 30hp or so more at the crank, so 180 vs my 270ish or more. Weight plays a big role i guess.

For a second I thought you raced the Cobalt SS. Hmm, I'm surprised he kept up with you, I would've thought you would pull bus lengths on a base Cobalt.

I think you should have spanked him by quite a bit actually.

whoa that's pretty surprising as a cobalt weighs around 1460kg with 145hp from a 2.2L engine. It's that heavy because GM wanted the cobalt to me more comfortable (ie, reduce NVH by means of a lot of sound insulation technologies, stronger transmission mounting, the use of "quiet steel" etc). C&D tested the 4AT model and got 8.4s from 0-60, so I would guesstimate that the 5MT should do around 7.5s. With the mods he has, it should be around 7s I guess?

I have h/i and got taken by a fraction of a car length by a cobalt SS supercharged.

They aren't a joke.

For the base with a manual and some bolt ons, I am suprised you didn't open a wider gap

Gonna make Motorplex fun

Not if the TL is modified. I actually think a TL-p can hang with or out run the SS. I know that when a friend of mine had one my P had just intake and exhaust and I was door to door.

There is a kid with a red Cobalt SS in my neighborhood. Everytime he seems me, he tries to run against me. This is after I smoked him a few times last summer

GM claimed that Cobalt SS SC can do 0-60mph in 6.1s, which is 0.1 s faster than a 2nd gen TL-S.

Car and Driver also got 6.1s for 0-60mph and 14.6@99mph for the 1/4mile, which is 0.1 (6.2s )and 0.2s (14.8s) faster than a 2nd TL-S respectively, according to car and driver again. http://www.caranddriver.com/features...ercharged.html
